Some Metro East firearms instructors could face charges if they ever try to teach again.
Illinois State Police yanked the teaching licenses of two St. Clair County men for skirting the new conceal-carry gun law. It requires students to train for at least 16 hours before they can get their permit to carry, but St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly says students came forward claiming the instructors fell short.
“The information that we received about this particular class is that they weren’t even close to getting the hours that they were supposed to have and that they weren’t even complying with the spirit of this new law, so therefore we had to take some action even if that action was short of criminal prosecution,” said Kelly.
Kelly says the men will be prosecuted if they attempt to instruct again. They have to refund the cost of the class to nearly 100 students, whose conceal-carry licenses are now invalid.
Authorities did not release the names of the men because they have not been charged.

Here’s the real problem, why must they teach for 16 hours? It’s too long! In Tennessee you have to receive instructions for 8-hours, and sometimes the instructors might teach you for 6-hours since there’s really not that much they can teach.
The worst part is that 100 students now have to waste even more time learning stuff they already know. The students who came forward and exposed the instructors are a-holes. What were they thinking? That they weren’t getting their money’s worth? The licensing system is a burden, this is not a class we take because we want to, but because we have to if we want to keep and bear arms in public.
My suggestion to gun ranges is make sure you have plenty of videos to ensure you deliver 16-hours of class time. You can also spend time talking about examples of armed self-defense, gun cases are always fascinating.
