Here’s a story that makes me mad:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gun purchases in Rhode Island would be subject to an additional 10 percent tax under legislation introduced in the Senate that critics say imposes a punishment on law-abiding citizens.
The Finance Committee heard testimony on Sen. Gayle Goldin‘s bill Thursday.
The money would go into a special fund and be distributed to police departments throughout the state. It would be allocated proportionally based on the number of “total offenses” in cities and towns.
The funds would support nonprofit groups that work to reduce crime and violence. The local police chief or highest ranking municipal official would decide which organizations get the money.
Goldin said the legislation would help make communities safer. Critics called the bill a punitive tax on law-abiding citizens and said the money could go to anti-gun groups.

Even if the money was distributed to the NRA, this bill would still oppose this bill. It’s offensive to imply that the lawful purchase of guns has anything to do with crime. Would we tolerate a 10% beer tax that goes to M.A.D.D.? No, the average beer drinker would feel insulted, same deal here. The police already make enough money confiscating the property of criminals and selling it at public auction, we certainly don’t need some politician getting kickbacks to make sure Moms Demand Action gets their funding.
If you’re a gun owner or gun dealer in Rhode Island, speak up now before it’s too late.
