New Zealand street closed over toy guy

New Zealand has strict gun laws, but that doesn’t stop them from overreacting over BS.

A man is in custody after wandering into a central Wellington bar with a toy pistol in his pocket.

The man was sitting in Courtenay Place’s Bangalore Polo Club on Monday afternoon when a staff member spotted what looked like a gun in the patron’s pocket.

The staff member alerted the police who cordoned off the road while they made their approach.

But the gun turned out to be a plastic toy, Inspector Dave Rose told NZ Newswire.

The man wasn’t dressed up, and Insp Rose didn’t know why the man was carrying a fake weapon.

But he said false alarms over fake guns happened reasonably often.

“We deal with them fairly regularly where people don’t consider the consequences of what might happen.”

Courtenay Place was closed off for about 15 minutes, Insp Rose said.

The man is in custody, and is expected to be charged.

Really? Did they have to closet the entire street? Are kiwi cops such wussies that they can’t approach someone and say “excuse me, is that a gun in your pocket?”

And what is this man going to be charged with? Is having a toy gun in your pocket a crime? What a BS country.
