Fists too often part of domestic violence

Valerie Wynn is a woman with almost 20 years of experience working with victims of domestic violence has decided to come out against guns, surprise, surprise:

….

I also am a survivor of an abusive relationship that almost turned lethal. On the day I told my abuser I did not want to see him any longer, he tried to kill me. I know that the reason he wasn’t successful in ending my life that day was because there were no weapons in my apartment at the time of the assault. If he had been able to access a gun, I am certain I wouldn’t be here to write this.

I see. Where there meat knives in your apartment? Was he an amputee? Could he not choke you with his own fists? Or perhaps your husband was a midget and all you had to do was hold his head while he was trying to punch you?

In 2013, Congress reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act. The act provides support for domestic violence victims, and just as importantly, has brought domestic violence to the forefront of the national conversation. The legislation also reminds us that there’s much more work ahead to keep women safer from domestic violence.

This week, I’ll be traveling to Washington, D.C., to join Everytown for Gun Safety and other survivors of domestic violence to call on our members of Congress to support legislation that would close the deadly loophole that allows abusive dating partners and convicted stalkers to get their hands on guns. While I’m there, I’ll be urging our U.S. senators to support this important bill.

Congress does a lot of meaningless things, just like you do! The truth is you don’t really care about the victims of domestic violence, if you did you’d be supporting the Armed Citizen Project, giving poor people a fighting chance. You really think you’re alive because your husband didn’t have a gun? Sweetheart, you’re alive because your man didn’t have the balls to kill you. You got lucky, other women won’t be so lucky and their men will always find a way to get a gun, it’s not rocket science, it’s a black market.

The numbers are staggering: More intimate partner homicides in the U.S. are committed with guns than with all other weapons combined. Every month 48 American women are shot to death by a current or former husband or boyfriend. Armed stalkers also pose a significant threat to women: A study of incidents in 10 major U.S. cities found that nearly nine in 10 attempted murders of women involved at least one incident of stalking in the year before the attempted murder.

We also know that the presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation makes it five times more likely that a woman will be killed which is why keeping guns out of the hands of convicted stalkers and abusive dating partners will save women’s lives.

I see, so now we’re gonna treat every man as a stalker? Perhaps stalker registration? You’re as silly as those people who blame obesity on junk food instead of putting the blame where it belongs, on themselves. No, you’re not responsible for the actions of criminals but you could choose to PROTECT YOURSELF instead of waiting for the State to protect you.

Here’s a woman who chose to protect herself:

KENNER, La. (WGNO) - No charges have been filed against a Kenner woman who fatally shot her husband.

Investigators say the shooting ended a history of domestic violence between the couple.

The children, ages 4 to 14, reportedly dialed 911 around 2:30 a.m.; when their father allegedly showed up armed with a gun.

An argument turned physical, and then came the gunfire.

“She wound up firing her own weapon, shooting him multiple times. He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” McGregor said.

See? It wasn’t 911 that saved them, it wasn’t Obama, it wasn’t Big Government, it was the woman with her trusty gun. He also had a gun, but she had the guts to shoot first.
