Why is the NRA being PC about Open Carry?

Let’s take a look at these two statements:

Statement from Chili’s

We recognize that the open carry of firearms creates an uncomfortable atmosphere and is not permitted under many local liquor laws,” Ashley Johnson, spokeswoman for Chili’s’ parent company, Brinker International, tells the Huffington Post in an email. “So, we kindly ask that guests refrain from openly carrying firearms into our restaurants and we will continue to follow state and local laws on this issue.”

Statement from the NRA:

“…It’s downright weird and certainly not a practical way to go normally about your business while being prepared to defend yourself. To those who are not acquainted with the dubious practice of using public displays of firearms as a means to draw attention to oneself or one’s cause, it can be downright scary. It makes folks who might normally be perfectly open-minded about firearms feel uncomfortable and question the motives of pro-gun advocates.”

I’m sure the sight of interracial couples used to be downright scary, now we’re used to them. The NRA is doing us no favors by giving the anti-gunners ammunition. What are they thinking? That Bloomberg is going to become pro-gun because the NRA opposes open carry? Come on, NRA, you know better. The open carry movement is helping Americans overcome their fears of guns and gun owners, does it make some people uncomfortable? Maybe, but that discomfort isn’t based on reality. Nobody’s getting shot, nobody’s getting beaten, we’re doing what the Israelis do every day. Israel ironically prohibits concealed carry, but that’s a different issue.
The point is that the Israelis have gotten used to the sight of guns because their lives depend upon guns, they know that if war breaks out, there’s not going to be time to go to the armory and grab your gear, instead you might have to head to the battlefield right away.

The Chilis people believe in a right to be comfortable while the NRA is afraid of freedom being downright scary. Both have it wrong, your freedom ends where my nose begins. Your freedom is not violated if I open carry a gun. If you’re afraid of guns, that’s your problem, not mine.

  1. Actions like these are why I do NOT give any money to the NRA except for my membership dues which allows me to continue to belong to a shooting range that is very convenient to my home. If it weren’t for that, all my donations would go to the Second Amendment Foundation (saf.org) or other organizations pursuing specific suits against gun laws around the country.

    • Interesting, is the shooting range owned by the NRA or do they make you become an NRA member to join? I think there was a range in Colorado that was making that requirement but because they were leasing public lands, they had to take a step back.

    • I found it after goggling “armed in Israel,” and having been to Israel, I can tell that those girls look Israeli. After all, when was the last time you saw a soldier in civilian clothing with open carrying a gun? That only happens in Israel I think.

  2. Incrementalism, gentlemen. The other side has perfected it. We have not.

There’s a lot to be learned from that.

    • Brilliant statement, the other side takes the death by a thousand cuts approach, we can do the same.

  3. the home of the ‘brave’…?…. PC is for cowards and wussies….and by the way it is Unconstitutional since PC is someone telling you what to say and that is anti 1 st amendment…A glock on the hip would be more stylish then a slung over the shoulder Ar 5…but then again everyone has a different wardrobe……..imho
