Combative robber uses hose nozzle to rob Naples store

Naples police officers were forced to use multiple handcuffs and pepper spray several times to subdue a 23-year-old man after he robbed the CVS on 9th Street South in Naples shortly before midnight Wednesday.

Police said Ob Akeem Rendell Arnold, 23, of Naples, was identified by a store employee as the man who forced him back into the store after he took out the trash and was preparing to close the store. The employee told police the suspect pushed what he thought was a gun into his back and forced him to the office where he took $14,064.63 in store profits and then bound the employee with tape. The “gun” was later found to be the nozzle of a garden hose.

The employee managed to alert another worker during the robbery and police were called. Arnold was captured shortly after he left the store.

Police said Arnold struggled with them during his arrest, constantly pulling his hands away from the arresting detectives and officers, kept trying to lift himself up from the ground and onto his knees, balling his fists and continuing to try and maneuver his body to get leverage to try and get up.

Officers finally cuffed Arnold but were forced to use two pairs of restraints and multiple uses of pepper spray when he continued kicking at officers, knocked another officer down, broke his leg restraints and tried to escape.

Arnold was charged with robbery, kidnapping, aggravated battery, battery on a law enforcement officer, obstructing justice, use/display weapon during felony, grand theft, resist officer with violence, commit 3rd degree felony wearing a mask.
