Savage Model 10T: Changing the accessibility to long range shooting

Review By Tundra Tactical

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Tundra Tactical’s First impression review of the savage model 10T. We have been waiting a long time to test this gun and some of its variants. We are extremely excited to finally bring you or thoughts of this firearm, and the news is good!

Where does it fit?

The Savage model 10T fills a hole in the long range shooting world that quite honestly needed to be filled for quite some time. Savage has provided us with an affordable entry in the long to extreme range shooting world, what’s more is they have done this without making us choose between this feature or that feature.

While this firearm has only a small amount of competition, the rifle it is up against has dominated the “budget” long range world for decades now. As most of you know the rifle I’m speaking of is the Remington 700 series of rifles. However with prices starting in the mid 800’s the Savage Model 10T gets you if not the exact same, arguably better performance for 200 dollars less!

In times where we have come to almost come to expect to pay a thousand dollars plus for an entry level long range firearm, the Savage Model 10T has made its mark on our targets but happily not our wallets.

Performance, Specs, and Features

Now getting right down to the specs and features of the firearm itself, the Savage Model 10T does not leave you wanting. It is loaded with features that include but are not limited to Savage’s Accustock, and Accutrigger. The 24 inch 1:10 Rate of Twist barrel makes slinging 168 grain Federal Gold Medal Match ammo a dream. Out of the box and with a 4×16 power Vortex Viper PST on top i was consistently cloverleafing my zeroing targets at 100 meters. That puts the Savage Model 10T well within the half MOA that most people claim to get out of the box. Another luxury feature you don’t normally find on a firearm at this price tag is 5R rifling, We once again find it on the 10T. If that was not enough for you, it comes with a weighted “Tactical” BA style blot handle that is not found on most rifles this south of the 1k price tag, and mounted just north of that bolt handle is a 1913 rail to attach your favorite optic to.

Getting Critical

Now we have just over 100 rounds through our rifle at this point and the critical elements that drive this firearm to the limits of exceptional have functioned flawlessly. To find any buyer beware elements we need to get really picky. When it comes to downside, the only challenge i really could talk about would be the bolt itself. While the weighted bolt handle makes unlocking the bolt to extract a round a dream, the bolt does not seem (at least at this point) to travel quite as smoothly as some of its competitors.   It feels gritty on the travel to the rear, and you run into some but noticeable wobble that sometimes binds the bolt on the return trip home.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I have been jaw droppingly impressed with the Savage Model 10T’s range performance. The Accutrigger travels and breaks as clean as it does on all other high end Sagave firearms, and like we stated earlier the Accustock keeps everything nice and rigid so that stock flex is not a problem. The wonderfully attractive, 24 inch bull barrel is finished in an extremely attractive Matte black coat, and will stand up to anything your state has the throw at it weather wise. With features sometimes absent on firearms at twice its price, we would advise that the Savage Model 10T says on your radar, or better yet finds its way into your gun safe. You, like me will not be disappointed.

We hope you enjoyed watching the video it was taken at Caribou Gun Club in Le Sueur Minnesota. If you live in the area or even in the Twin Cities, check them out it was well worth the drive.
