Georgia Judge Worried about Gun Owner Proficiency.

Getting a concealed carry license is easier in Georgia than in other places. You pay $79.25, fill paperwork, get fingerprinted and photographed, and in about two week, a judge stamps the approval and your get your license.

Yet this worries one judge

Probate Court Judge Harry James says the increase could likely put more residents in danger rather than prevent loss of life.

“We are licensing people who don’t know how to operate or store their weapons properly,” he said. “We do have people who are genuinely handicapped, but the background check will check out. They are entitled to carry a gun, and I cannot turn them down.”

Really? And how would he know that? Statistics or just typical anti-gun bias? He’s probably an elitist making assumptions.

In Georgia, applicants aren’t tested for firearm proficiency, he said, which could be disastrous for gun license owners who are also first-time shooters.

In Tennessee, we are tested for firearm proficiency, but you know what? It doesn’t matter.

1. Most gun owners shoot on a regular basis, thus they are already proficient.

2. If the criminal is right in front of you, you can’t miss.

3. Many incidents will be resolved by simply brandishing the gun.

4. You don’t need to pass a grammar and spelling test to be a blogger, thus you don’t need a firearm proficiency test to carry a gun. It’s a right, not a privilege.

Support California Right to Carry.

California Right to Carry is fighting for our rights, here’s their story.

The lawsuit: – In 1967, California made it a crime to carry a loaded firearm in all incorporated cities and in most unincorporated county territory. In 2010, the City of Redondo Beach California passed a local ordinance which the City Attorney & Prosecutor’s office has interpreted to ban the mere possession of all weapons, even pocket knives, in public. Both laws are perfect test cases for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to say whether or not the US Supreme Court meant what it said in its 2008 & 2010 decisions on the Second Amendment. A victory against either law in the court of appeals would be valid statewide.

Which is why I filed a Federal lawsuit seeking to overturn both in November of 2011. It has been a long hard fight. Neither the magistrate judge nor the district court judge assigned to my case are fans of the Second Amendment. Despite the legal obstacles they threw at me (I am not an attorney) and despite the opposition from seven lawyers, the magistrate judge filed a report with the district court judge recommending that the motions to dismiss by the Attorney General (Kamala Harris) and the City of Redondo Beach be denied and that my lawsuit be allowed to proceed.

On December 11, 2012 the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned an Illinois state law which is identical to the 1967 California law my lawsuit seeks to overturn.

Ultimately, my lawsuit will be won or lost before the appellate courts. My lawsuit is unique in that it has always maintained that the US Supreme Court meant exactly what it said about carrying firearms in public. The so called gun-rights groups have either told the courts that the Supreme Court really didn’t mean what it said or they have failed to challenge the constitutionality of any California law banning the carrying of loaded firearms in public.

In every case where they have argued the opposite of what the Supreme Court said, they have lost. Ironically, their losses have only served to strengthen my lawsuit. Every time a Federal judge issues a decision saying that the Supreme Court meant what it said, my case moves that much closer to victory.

Gay Gun Owner gets $23,500 Settlement.

This is not your typical pro-gun story.

In July of 2012, James Sorensen was openly carrying a handgun as he attended a gay pride event with his partner in Colorado Springs, CO.

During the event, officers confronted Sorensen, threatened him with physical violence and then finally arrested him.

The charges against Sorensen were of course dropped since open carry has been legal in Colorado for years now.

Now, Sorensen is making the city pay for their mistake. Based on open records of a settlement, Sorensen was paid $23,500 for his troubles generated by the city’s mistake.

According to 9NEWS, police say the documents they use to know the law were not up to date with the current carry laws.

During the encounter one police sergeant told Sorensen, “You’re about to get the sh– kicked out of you.”

Another officer told Sorensen to hire an attorney following the incident if he felt his rights were being violated (turned out to be good advice).

Other officers repeatedly reference a law that does not exist.

All this drama could have been avoided if the cops had called the Station and made sure what the law is.

‘Gun-Free Zones’ are Murder Magnets.

Another brilliant quote from Larry Pratt:

“Every one of our mass murders in our country has occurred in places where guns are prohibited,” Pratt said. “The legislation that is on the books is lethal; it is killing people. All of these gun-free zones are murder magnets, and we simply have got to get rid of them. It’s an illusion to think that somehow we’re going to be safer because we can’t have a gun in a particular area, because the bad guy’s going to have a gun.”

Larry Pratt: Bloomberg’s Arrogance of Power.

I like Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America, he always tells it like it is:

WASHINGTON – A gun-rights leader Sunday blasted Mayor Bloomberg for planning to spend $25 million in next year’s elections to boost gun control, saying Americans reject his “arrogance of power.”

“I’m not sure the amount of money that billionaire Bloomberg has is going to be effective,” Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, said on “Fox News Sunday.”

He predicted a repeat of this year’s recall election in Colorado, where Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns spent $350,000 backing two gun-control lawmakers who still got booted from office.

“He outspent the candidates that won in Colorado enormously and he lost,” said Pratt. “So I think the message is, ‘We don’t like the arrogance of power. We don’t like the message that we ought to be disarmed as a way of fighting crime.”

Gun Industry Bigger than GM.

In a pro-gun control article I found this interesting factoid:

The firearms industry is a big part of the U.S. economy. It supports some 220,000 jobs, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) — far bigger than the North American payroll of General Motors, dubbed “a pillar of our economy” by Obama when he outlined his 2009 decision to extend the automaker’s bailout first announced by George W. Bush.

And then this:

For supporters of gun rights: Stop getting worked up about “the government” coming to get your guns. Scare tactics only make for good propaganda, drives NRA membership, and has enriched the gun industry immensely, particularly during the Obama years. At the same time, try showing some respect to those who disagree with you; you might learn something from their perspective.

Your people create games where you can virtually shoot NRA members and you want some respect? That balls on you. As for listening to your side, are you kidding us? It’s so much easier for the left to ignore the right than vice-versa. All I have to do is Google “gun” and I get your stupid side.

For those who favor sensible regulations on guns, don’t hold your breath waiting for tighter restrictions on gun purchases. If Sandy Hook wasn’t enough to spark tighter restrictions, then nothing is. But take comfort in this: The long-term trend against gun ownership is slowly moving in your favor. About half of all U.S. households owned guns in the 1970s. This fell to about 43 percent in the 1990s and is about 37 percent now.

Yet the Tea Party has grown, more women and minorities are shooting, it’s just a question of time until we reverse those trends. And let’s face it, statistics can be wrong.
