Anti-gunners draw false correlation between gun murder and gun permit repeal in Missouri

Missouri used to require a permit to buy a gun, this was repealed in 2007 and the enemy is now claiming this has led to more murders.

The team followed the consequences of the State of Missouri repealing its permit-to-purchase handgun law in 2007.

The law had required purchasers to be vetted by the local sheriff and to receive a licence before buying a gun.

Reporting soon in the Journal of Urban Health, the researchers will say that the repeal resulted in an immediate spike in gun violence and murders.

The study links the abandonment of the background check to an additional 60 or so murders occurring per year in Missouri between 2008 and 2012.

Really? So are we to assume suddenly criminals bought guns because they didn’t need a permit from the sheriff?

“Coincident exactly with the policy change, there was an immediate upward trajectory to the homicide rates in Missouri,” said Prof Daniel Webster, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research.

“That upward trajectory did not happen with homicides that did not involve guns; it did not occur to any neighbouring state; the national trend was doing the opposite – it was trending downward; and it was not specific to one or two localities – it was, for the most part, state-wide,” he told BBC News.

Pure coincidence, obviously murder is an individual act, it’s not like they get together and decide how to murder people.

The team said it took account of changes that occurred in policing levels and incarceration rates, trends in burglaries, and statistically controlled for other possible confounding factors such as shifts in unemployment and poverty.

What was stark, added Prof Webster, was the rise in the number of handguns that subsequently found their way into the hands of criminals.

The team counted a doubling of handguns shortly after sale being recovered from scenes of crimes or from criminals.

Yet did they count where the guns came from? What year where they purchased? No, they did not.

“This study is compelling confirmation that weaknesses in firearm laws lead to deaths from gun violence,” said Prof Webster.

The Johns Hopkins researcher was participating in a discussion here at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

The theme was “science-based strategies for reducing gun violence”.

America currently has more than 300 million handguns in circulation. But the issue of gun control remains a hugely contentious one.

You mean the Johns Hopkins BLOOMBERG School of Public Health, I’m sorry BBC, but an anti-gun study from them is like an anti-black study from the Ku Klux Klan.

Maybe you should fire your “science” correspondent since he’s obviously unscientific and extremely biased.

Here’s what the anti-gun Nazis didn’t tell you:

Missouri Woman Fires at and Hits 1 of 3 Would be Home Invaders

Missouri Man Shoots Armed Robber

Would Be Street Robber Ends Up Being Shot in Head, Chest, Arms and Legs by His Victim

I wouldn’t be surprised if these are the people the Hopkins bastards are counting are as gun homicides.

I can’t wait for John Lott to rip this “study” to pieces.

Ready for the NRA convention in Indianapolis?

Why host an NRA convention in Indianapolis? Simple:

Important/Relevant Gun Laws (Indiana)

RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS HANDGUNS
Permit to Purchase No No
Registration of Firearms No No
Licensing of Owners No No
Permit to Carry No Yes

According to the AP, almost 70,000 people are expected to show up in April for the NRA’s annual convention.

The gun-loving organization that’s gathering at the Indiana Convention Center April 25-27 has never held its show in Indianapolis, and it tends to stay quiet about its demographics. That has many in the city playing a guessing game as they try to determine what will best entice visitors to part with their cash.

….

Last year’s convention in Texas came amid a resulting national debate about gun-control laws that intensified after the December 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. The 2013 event drew a record crowd of 86,228, up 15 percent from 2012.

Attendance in Indianapolis is expected to be lower, but the event is still expected to have a $55.4 million economic impact on the city. The convention will be the second-largest non-sports gathering and third-biggest for economic impact, said Chris Gahl, Visit Indy vice president of marketing and communications.

It pays to be pro-gun, besides, when was the last time the enemy hosted an anti-gun convention? Would anyone even show up? What would they sell? Bumperstickers and T-Shirts? Good luck with that

Indianapolis leaders spent about a decade working to land the convention despite the group’s critics.

City officials say they are prepared for the possibility of demonstrators surrounding the convention center.

Marc Lotter, spokesman for Mayor Greg Ballard, said city officials will work to keep everyone safe but won’t inhibit anyone’s right to free speech.

“We respect their First Amendment rights and we’d expect that they would respect our First and Second Amendment rights,” Arulanandam said.

I’ll be LMAO when I see those loser protesters (the 10 of them) outside.

Free California recall effort stalls

This is embarrassing, but it must be reported:

An effort to recall several California Democratic lawmakers from office because of their votes on gun-control bills last year seems to be on the back burner now.

“They’re not off the table, they’re still being considered, but there’s just a lot going on,” said Jennifer Kerns, who founded the nonprofit Free California last October. “No decisions have been made as to whether to move forward. … We’re still in sort of a wait-and-see mode.”

Kerns, a political consultant now managing Republican Assemblyman Tim Donnelly’s gubernatorial campaign, was involved in last year’s successful recall of two Colorado lawmakers over that state’s gun-control legislation.

But California and Colorado are very different, noted Sam Paredes, executive director of Gun Owners of California, whose group was supporting the Free California effort.

The Legislature’s Democratic supermajority could too easily consolidate any recall elections with this year’s regular elections, thus negating recall supporters’ advantage of lesser total voter turnout, Paredes said. Also, California requires that recall petition signature gatherers be registered to vote within that specific district, making use of paid circulators much harder.

“We’re looking at the realities of politics in California, the realities of the electoral process,” Paredes said. “So we’re in a contemplative status.”

Free California in October had named as potential targets state Sens. Norma Torres, D-Chino, and Ben Hueso, D-Chula Vista; Assemblywomen Lorena Gonzalez, D-San Diego, and Sharon Quirk-Silva, D-Fullerton; and Assembly Speaker John Perez, D-Los Angeles.

Kerns noted Wednesday that two of those districts — Hueso’s and Gonzalez — would’ve competed for attention with the San Diego mayoral election that just concluded this week; now that the mayoral contest is done, Free California might take a fresh look at unseating the lawmakers.

Free California’s Facebook page hasn’t been updated since October. As a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, it’s not required to disclose its contributors.

Though both Kerns and Paredes said the recall idea isn’t completely off the table, it’s hard to see how they can maintain momentum as more time passes since last year’s gun-control votes; petitions began circulating for the Colorado recalls less than a week after that state’s new bills were signed into law. And as this year’s gubernatorial and legislative races demand more attention, time and money, there’ll be less and less left for an effort like this.

I update my Facebook page everyday, and I’m only one person. You’d think Free California would have at least one intern to do that. It’s not that hard.

Warning shot kills two-year-old in Ghana

Here’s an interesting story from Africa (Ghana), and a lesson about the dangers of warning shots:

A security man is said to have mistaken a two-year-old girl for an armed robber and fired first into the air as a scare tactic and later at the innocent girl, killing her instantly.

The Akyem Kwarbeng Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship Isaac Amoah has remanded Francis Adevu,41, a security man of Net Gold Mining Company Limited at Kwarbeng in the Eastern region, for allegedly shooting a two-year-old girl to death.

The plea of the suspect was not taken and he is expected to re-appear in court on February 28, 2014.

According to the investigator, Fatawu Tanko, on February 12, 2014 at around 3pm, the deceased, Comfort Carobel accompanied her father, Job Amoah, a staff of the mining company to its site.

During the weighing process of the extracted gold, the security man on duty, Francis Adevu took his pump action gun and fired into the air – a tactic always done to scare potential robbers who normally invade the site during this process to steal gold.

According to the investigator, the security man during his second firing allegedly shot towards the direction of a summer hut where the deceased and others were sitting.

It is unclear the motive for the gun shot, but witnesses say he might have mistaken the girl and the others for armed robbers, hence, the gun shot.

Sadly, the fatal bullets pierced Comfort’s head and chest. Isaac Okyere, 27, a casual worker also got injured on his right hand and back.

Investigator Tanko said, the security man tried to bolt but was arrested by the Anyinam Police Command upon a tip-off.

He said the two victims were rushed to the Hawa Memorial Hospital at Osiem, and later referred to Koforidua Central Hospital; however, Comfort Carobel was pronounced dead on arrival while Isaac Okyere was admitted and is currently receiving treatment.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Kibi Government Morgue for autopsy while investigations are ongoing.

5 Great Movies by Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis is a pro-gun Hollywood actor, a rare breed, so let’s celebrate the man by promoting his movies.

1. The Fifth Element

This film is probably more recognizable as the one with the chick from the Resident Evil movies as the attractive alien, but it does feature Willis in a sort-of futuristic John McClane-type role that suits him perfectly. The Fifth Element is a nice mix of science fiction, action and comedy, which is mostly derived from Willis’ character, the cab driving former military officer Korben Dallas

2. Armageddon

If an asteroid was hurling toward the Earth, and NASA’s best option was to send oil drillers up into space to land on the asteroid and drop a nuke in a hole, who wouldn’t want that oil driller to be Bruce Willis? As Harry Stamper, Willis plays the American everyman to perfection. He’s a funny guy, he’s a loving father, he cares deeply for his friends and crew, and is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the planet. Quoting the late Michael Clarke Duncan, “Harry, you da man.”

3. Sin City

Based on Frank Miller’s graphic novels, Sin City revolves around the seediest, most vile, most corrupt city in the country. Its inhabitants are mostly all evil, including some cops and members of the government. One of the good guys is Bruce Willis’ Hartigan, an aging cop that has sworn to protect young Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) from a deformed pedophile. Sin City is easily the most visually stunning on any of Willis’ movies, as director Robert Rodriguez filmed a majority of the movie on a green screen, making it seem like the viewers are watching the actual comic on the big screen.

4. Pulp Fiction

This movie would probably top most “Best Films” lists, but Willis isn’t exactly the main character in this one. Willis’ character, Butch Coolidge, is a down-on-his-luck boxer who’s in deep with the wrong people, namely Marsellus Wallace. Butch doesn’t tank his fight like he’s supposed to, and goes on the run. He ends up running into Marsellus on the street, then that’s when things get nasty. A Zed and a gimp later, mostly everyone is scarred for life. Thanks Tarantino.

5. Die Hard

If a Bruce Willis movie had to beat Pulp Fiction, you knew it had to be Die Hard. The movie that made Bruce Willis a star, Die Hard is still one of the best action movies of all time. It’s the perfect blend of over-the-top action and humor, which Willis carried over from his Moonlightingdays. Yippe-kay-yay!
