Is Michael Weisser a Useful Idiot?

Michael Weisser is described as ” a.k.a. Mike The Gun Guy, is an NRA Life Member, NRA-certified firearms instructor, owner of a retail gun shop and a featured blogger on guns for the Huffington Post.”

So you would think the author of Guns For Good Guys; Guns For Bad Guys would be on our side.

If so, why is a liberal gun-hating magazine like New Yorker giving him great reviews?

He also debunks rather thoroughly the notion that there are often, or even ever, occasions when carrying a loaded, concealed weapon is likely to make an actual difference in a confrontation; when they do take place, it’s difficult for even a trained policeman to hit anything reliably.

He also makes the profound and disquieting point that the appetite for “black” guns—military-style weapons—is often driven by the new reality that ours is a highly militarized society, almost permanently at war, in which soldiers never quite stop being soldiers. “Troops are now lionized as ‘warriors’ and the notion of a distinction between a nation ‘at war’ and a nation ‘at peace’ has disappeared,” he writes.

….

“We train to drive cars safely because we know that if we don’t drive properly there’s a good chance we could get killed every time we get behind the wheel of a car. But nobody really imagines that if they walk down the street without their gun that it’s going to make much of a difference. Most people who aren’t criminals but like to carry a gun simply enjoy the fact that they can do it; that it’s there; that I can put my hand in my pocket and instead of wrapping my fingers around my key chain, can wrap it around my gun.”

Weisser has a lot of explaining to do. If he’s an NRA member, does he subscribed to America’s First Freedom? Does he not get The Armed Citizen column with dozens of stores of armed self-defense? Does he not visit GunsSaveLives.net which has more than 1,000 documented self-defense stories so far?

Why is he against “black” guns? What’s wrong with wanting to own an AR-15 or the civilian versions of military weapons? For the record, I do imagine that walking with a gun makes a big difference. True, 99.99% of the time nothing happens, but I’d like being prepared.

Frankly, I’ve never heard of this guy before today, I don’t usually read The Huffington Post and I’m surprised they would allow an NRA-member to publish columns there.

But when a liberal magazine praises you, it makes me wonder what exactly is Weisser doing. His book by the way, only has two reviews and it’s #937,534 as of 8pm, 11-21-13.

My book is #173,673 Paid in Kindle Store, #89 in the Civil Rights and Liberties categories. Yet I’m not famous like Weisser, I’m not getting New Yorker profiles, I don’t publish at The Huffington Post, and I’m not even a natural born writer. My book is only 40 pages, his is 250.

His book doesn’t even have a Kindle version, which makes me wonder of his commitment for book sales. After all, why write a book about the 2nd Amendment if people with Kindles can’t read it? (Us Kindle-freaks hate paper books)

I’ll give Weisser the benefit of the doubt, but sir, wise up. If a liberal pays you a compliment, you’re probably doing something wrong.
