Impersonating a police officer and carrying an “illegal” weapon in New Jersey could cost you:

Port Authority police pulled over a 2010 Jeep Cherokee for having an unreadable license plate Friday around 8:30 p.m. in Weehawken, according to agency spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

The driver, 64-year-old Jose M. Quinones, got out and an officer saw he had an empty nylon handgun holster on his hip, Pentangelo said.

When the officer asked about the holster, Quinones “indicated” he was a police officer and said there was a gun in the vehicle, according to Pentangelo.

  1. Glad they caught this nut job. I believe in lawful carry, and I realize that in NJ it’s impossible.

But this guy’s issue wasn’t lawful carry, it was impersonation of lawful authority.

Indeed, in all other states that respect lawful civilian carry in public, permit holders uniformly do NOT impersonate cops, and their sidearms are for personal protection, not victimization.

    • I agree, what he did was criminal, even if he had yet to victimized anyone (libertarians believe No Victim = No Crime). My point is that committing that crime in NJ is gonna hurt you more than in other States.
