WEST FARGO – Raffle ticket sales will go public Monday for the annual West Fargo Hockey Association gun raffle.
The association will raffle off 300 guns – including rifles and handguns and a 2014 Polaris 570 Ranger – to raise money for the city’s youth hockey programs.
Last year, the West Fargo Hockey Association drew national attention for its gun raffle after the December massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
Organizers of the raffle later said the media attention caused a spike in turnout for the annual banquet and drawing, which sold out all 4,000 raffle tickets, raising about $80,000 for the association to build a new ice rink.
A presale of tickets is now underway. Tickets are $40 each and offer a 1 in 20 chance of winning a prize. Six-thousand tickets are being sold.
The 2014 banquet and drawing will be April 19 in Fargo.
