The actual headline was: “Cormac McCarthy’s ex pulls gun out of vagina after dispute about aliens”, here’s the story:

There’s a lotta talk in the media these days about misleading or patronising headlines tricking people into viewing viral content. This is not one of those cases. That headline speaks for itself.

The Smoking Gun reports that 48 year old artist Jennifer McCarthy was arrested last Saturday after pointing a handgun at her boyfriend. Fine, normal enough, if unfortunate. McCarthy also happens to be the most recent ex-wife of Pulitzer-winning author (and recently, screenplay-writer) Cormac McCarthy. Alright, well, I guess being the ex-wife of a celebrity isn’t that extraordinary, right? And before she was pointing a handgun at her boyfriend, she was arguing with him “about space aliens.” I mean, people are entitled to their beliefs, and besides it seems unlikely that we’re all alone in this massive universe, doesn’t it? Except, after the argument, McCarthy went into the bedroom and emerged “wearing lingerie and a silver handgun in her vagina.” 

W… wait, what?

“Jennifer started to have inner course [sic] with the gun-”

Hold on.

“-and stated ‘Who is crazy, you or me?'”

Uh oh. And then, “Jennifer pulled the gun out and pointed the gun at his head.” Bwuh. The unnamed boyfriend then pulled the gun off her, put it in the toilet, and then in the trash outside, where the police retrieved the “silver Smith & Wesson.” Grantland’s Emily Yoshida asked the pertinent question: “How big a gun are we talking here?” Smith & Wesson revolvers feature barrels of varying length and width. Are we talking the long-and-thin 10″ Model 29, made famous by Dirty Harry, or the snub-nosed Model 36? Or maybe a Volcanic pistol circa 1854 for the vintage lovers? The police report remains unclear.

Ultimately, nobody was grievously injured. McCarthy was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a household member and released on a $5000 bond on Sunday. Read The Smoking Gun’s report of this bizarre incident here.
