The Self-Hating American

One of the most common arguments for gun control is “The United States is the laughing stock of the entire developed world. Jokes are made about us and lots of people are dying.” Source: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=118&topic_id=485716&mesg_id=485716

The self-hating American is a unique creature, he celebrates multiculturalism while growing up in one culture, he defends bilingual education while just speaking one language, he admires the socialism in Denmark while staying right here at home.

Yet even if his argument was right, would it matter? Do you really care if the citizens of inferior nations laugh at you? If you’re a Roman, does it matter if the Thracians see your gladiator games as barbaric? If you’re French, does it matter if Americans think you’re a smelly bastard who should wear deodorant? And if you’re American, should you not instead be proud of your country?

The fact is that with the exception of a few haters, the world doesn’t laugh at us, they admire us, they want to be like us, they are often jealous of us. Go to a shopping mall in Venezuela and you’ll see lots of stores with English names. Go to Japan and you’ll see McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Blue Jeans, Coke, Pepsi, and all the pleasures of America, albeit few of our rights.

The self-hating American is both ignorant of his country and the world, in the rare case that they travel abroad, they will only see a glimpse of the cultures they love.

The self-hating American blames America first while making excuses for the world. This is why Jimmy Carter said we needed to get over our “hysteria” against communism, never mind that Stalin killed more than Hitler, according to that old peanut farmer, we must give the commies the benefit of the doubt.

In an article entitled “Real Reasons Liberals Hate Guns” I found this interesting paragraph:

Gun ownership puts power into the hands of the people and therefore they are less dependent on the government. Owning a gun at the time of need gives the law-abiding gun owner the ability to make the decision as to whether the use of force is lawful, right, and justified. The American Left doesn’t believe ordinary citizens have the ability to make such decisions, hence their love affair with gun control.

Liberals prefer major life decisions to be made by the government. Consider issues such as government-run healthcare, the redistribution of wealth via the progressive tax system, and the lack of school choice as just a few examples that run parallel to their “government knows best” mentality present in those calling for more gun control and less overall guns. Again, it’s not about the guns, it’s about whether the people or the government should have the power.

It was self-hating Americans who elected Obama, who’s also a self-hating American assuming he wasn’t born in Kenya.  So do me a favor, the next time you hear some a-hole whining that people in other countries are happier than us, set him straight, tell him the truth.

Because I have lived in another country, I have traveled overseas many time, and I can tell you that the best thing of going away is coming home.
