Some of my Tea Party friends may be unhappy, but the NRA has to endorse a man with a proven track record on guns.
A statement from the NRA’s PAC chairman called Cornyn, the Senate minority whip, a “consistent and passionate champion of our Second Amendment rights” and noted his “A+ rating” from the group — an important endorsement in the deep-red state’s primary, which takes place in March.

Stockman (R-Texas), a firebrand conservative, once issued bumper stickers reading, “If babies had guns, they wouldn’t be aborted,” and called for President Barack Obama’s impeachment over gun control. He shook up the Senate primary with an 11th-hour entry that shocked observers in Washington and Austin, but so far hasn’t secured the endorsements of key conservative groups such as the Club for Growth, which is staying out of the contest.(QUIZ: How well do you know Re. “The right to keep and bear arms is a sovereign one, and for many folks like myself hunting and shooting sports are part of a rich and long Texas tradition of enjoying the outdoors,” Cornyn said in a statement. He added, “As the Obama political machine sets their sights on turning our state blue, I’m proud of the support of the most respected gun rights organization in the nation.”

A friendly suggestion, Mr. Cornyn, before mentioning hunting and the shooting sports, mention self-defense.
