Mistaken Identity and Background Checks

Daniel Kostelnik wrote a brilliant letter to the editor where he made the following points about the fallacy of background checks

  1. Out of the thousands of people denied gun purchases, all but 17 were cases of mistaken identity
  2. If a clerk in Miami lists John Doe in the database as a known alias for a convicted felon, every John Doe in the country will not be allowed to purchase a firearm from the dealer
  3. John Doe would have no recourse to regain his rights, and he would have to rely on gun shows or a relative, except that John Engen (Missoula, Montana) is trying to eliminate that.
