Daniel Kostelnik wrote a brilliant letter to the editor where he made the following points about the fallacy of background checks
- Out of the thousands of people denied gun purchases, all but 17 were cases of mistaken identity
- If a clerk in Miami lists John Doe in the database as a known alias for a convicted felon, every John Doe in the country will not be allowed to purchase a firearm from the dealer
- John Doe would have no recourse to regain his rights, and he would have to rely on gun shows or a relative, except that John Engen (Missoula, Montana) is trying to eliminate that.
