The Coalition Against Gun Violence recently posted “we’re not anti-gun” on Facebook, several commenters replied that they are anti-gun and only cops and the military should have guns. Well, looks like they were wrong:
MIAMI (AP) — A South Florida police officer is recovering after his holstered gun fired while he was chasing suspected thieves, wounding him in the leg.
Authorities said Monday that Officer Joel Basque of the Sweetwater Police Department was responding to a report of shoplifters at the Dolphin Mall near Miami. Basque and another officer tried to chase down the four suspects, who fled in different directions. They did catch one 18-year-old man.
Basque’s gun went off during the chase. The Miami Herald reports that Basque was treated at a hospital and released. Authorities say he will be placed on routine administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
Basque has been with the department about a year.

They don’t say how the gun went off, but do forgive me if I feel some schadenfreude over this.

I call B.S. The gun “went off” during the chase…WHILE HOLSTERED?!?!?
Let’s get a look at that holster.
The triggled could have gotten tangled with the clothes of the cop, but that seems unlikely unless he was carrying concealed and his holster didn’t cover the entire gun. Most likely it was his finger that got in the way, it happens. I used to close the car door with my right hand, which is the hand that holds the key, one time I threw the keys and closed the door at the same time, I couldn’t open the car door again, and was forced to call AAA. It was really embarrassing, but I learned from my experience.
Holsters are tricky to, I had a strapless holster, saw a bee and started to run, then I dropped the gun, it fell out of the holster. So now I’m aware that some holsters are bad for running. Crap happens, you live and learn.
