Stupid letter of the day:
Many years ago, a wise man advised me that if I ever had occasion to pull a gun on someone, I better be prepared to use it, otherwise, it might be taken from me and used against me.
Fast-forward to the senseless beating of one Valley priest and the murder of another one. While listening to police accounts of the crime, something stood out. Police stated that, after the initial beating, “the priest went to get his gun.” What?
Clearly, the priest has to have some accountability for the homicide that killed his colleague. We will never know, but maybe it would not have escalated into murder, at least by gun, had the priest not gone for his weapon.
Good guy with a gun stopping a bad guy with a gun — not this time.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda, liberals love Captain Hindsight. I can play that game, blame rape victims for being pretty and wearing miniskirts, yet that game doesn’t work. Anyone can become a rape victim, male or female, pretty or ugly, miniskirt or nun’s habit.
Anyone can get beaten to death, and not having a gun doesn’t mean you’ll live. Did the Armenians have guns when the Turks executed them? Did the concentration camp inmates have guns? I would say that 99.99% of victims didn’t have a weapon.
Furthermore, it’s not that the priest didn’t try to use his gun, he did, and it jammed, it didn’t fire. Sometimes that happens when you forget to clean your gun, yet am I going to blame the Priest for his own murder? No, the murderer is the one that deserves the blame.
Can we learn from this story? Absolutely, if you have a gun, keep it in a condition that works when you need it most. That’s not something that can be legislated, it’s just plain common sense.

A gun on your hip carries responsibility. We exercise that responsibility. One in twenty Floridians carry. They walk among you every day. They are the polite ones.
Imagine how many more Floridians would carry if open carry was allowed. Oh well, that’s hard to sell in Tallahassee with South Florida being so liberal.
