The New Year has brought forth many new laws throughout the United States that attack the Second Amendment rights of many citizens.  Luckily these are only state laws, but as we have seen in the past, the feds are not far behind.  In Connecticut people were waiting in extremely long lines to register their firearms and ammo before the new laws went into effect January 1, 2014.  Many of the weapons and ammunition are now illegal to own or purchase in the state unless they were registered and grandfathered in.  Many have compared the sight of these lines to the same in Germany several decades ago.

States such as New York and California have also implemented extreme new gun laws as well.  In California as of January 1, 2014 all long guns will be registered if purchased through a dealer.   If you sell a long rifle to an individual, they must register it with the department of justice immediately or face prosecution.  Thinking about moving to California?  If you do move to the state, you will have to register all of your firearms immediately.  The state has enacted many other gun control laws as well.   The Golden State has limited the production and sale of high capacity magazines too.  It is truly sad to see responsible gun owners treated like criminals and government regulations destroying businesses.

New York’s strict gun laws were actually upheld by a federal judge, marking a big win for the gun control crowd.  The new law bans assault weapons.  Within the ruling the judge says that regulating weapons is okay but he denied the law which stated gun owners could only load seven rounds into a weapon.  He decided that was against the Second Amendment.  I am still trying to figure out the ruling myself.  New Yorkers face an uphill battle on gun legislation in the future as well.  We will see many anti-gun laws be proposed and probably passed in New York City under the leadership of their new Mayor Bill de Blasio.  Mayor de Blasio calls himself a progressive, but if you look at his past I think it is safe to say he is a card carrying communist.  He spent the cold war in the Soviet Union and aided the Marxist Sandinista’s in Nicaragua after he graduated NYU.  Keep an eye on the progressive states such as Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and California to see how far they go with their gun grabbing legislation.

Finally, let’s go to Washington D.C. to see what they have down this year.  Starting January 2, 2014, every D.C. resident who purchased and registered a firearm since 1976 must go and reregister their weapon.  Also they must pay a $48.00 fee, get fingerprinted, and photographed.  Failure to do so within a strict sixty day window will result in the firearm losing its registration.  What does this mean for citizens who may not know about the new law?  If you are caught with an unregistered firearm you will be charged with a felony, given a $1,000.00 fine, and could face a minimum of one year in jail.  You do not ever get your weapon back either.   Let’s hope the D.C. crowd decides to look deep at the heart of the city and reject the laws that the founders would have started another war over.  Keep fighting for your rights and stay calm, we are with you.
