When liberals aren’t beating gun owners, they’re beating bar owners:
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Over the last 2 weeks, violence has continued in an area of Springfield’s entertainment district, and now the city is working to figure out if a certain nightbar may be partially to blame. As a result, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is threatening to shut down The Zone, a popular bar and nightclub on Worthington Street, after a shooting near the establishment earlier Saturday morning.
Saturday morning’s shooting marked the third shooting in two weeks near The Zone. Springfield Police Captain Trent Duda told 22News at least 2 reports of violence have been filed with the Liquor Commission. One woman told 22News bars and nightclubs should make these reports more public.
“Absolutely, I think the public awareness is key to keeping the public safe,” says Joann Gallo of Westfield.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno issued a directive to the city’s License Commission and also the police department to see if there is any connection between the Zone, behind me, and Saturday morning’s shooting. And if there is, there could be serious consequences.
Mayor Sarno says if a bar allowed a person with a gun inside…the bar’s entertainment license would be revoked or the bar would be shut down. Sarno issued a statement, which reads in part, “This non-sense has to stop as public safety is of paramount importance to any and all who come to these establishments. We will not tolerate this type of behavior.”
Some residents agree with the mayor’s actions.
“He’s gotta do whatever he can to make sure his city is safe,” Steve Gallo of Westfield told 22News. You know, you try and give somebody one chance and then after a chance or 2, something’s gotta be done.”
Back in April, 4 people were hurt at The Zone after a shootout around closing time. So far, there hasn’t been an official connection made between the bar and the shooting.

Yes, violence sometimes occurs at bars, what does the mayor want? Metal detectors at every bar? In Tennessee we allow people with a concealed carry license to bring a gun to a bar (they’re not allowed to drink) because it’s obvious that gun-free zones are never really gun-free, and it makes no sense to treat everyone like a criminal over a few bad apples.
The truth is bars create jobs, tax revenues, they’re an integral part of many communities, yet some freedom-hating mayor thinks he can bully them out of business.
I wish The Zone the best of luck fighting those government thugs. Stop blaming hardworking Americans for the actions of criminals.
