Brilliant video about why declining gun ownership doesn’t mean declining rights:
Rights are individual, not based on collective needs. I for example may think it’s absolutely insane to have a sex change operation, yet it’s your body, it’s your right.
I’m not enthused about people who have casual sex without a condom, but again, your body, your right.
I don’t do drugs, yet marijuana is being legalized all over the place.
I’m not marrying anyone anytime soon, yet same-sex marriage is being legalized.
I have no desire to listen to death metal or hip hop, yet it’s available for my consumption.
If you’ve seen The Wolf of Wall Street, you know some people have no business investing in the stock market, specially the kind that would buy a penny stock or are susceptible to high-pressure sales tactics. Yet people are free to invest, they are not free to steal however, and if theft or fraud can be proven, charges will be brought.
Thus with guns, they must also be accepted as an individual right. As for “responsibility,” well, criminals are notoriously irresponsible, so if they shoot innocent people, go ahead and prosecute them. But the idea that there should be gun-free zones and gun control because liberals don’t trust me with my firearms is ridiculous.
I don’t trust Bloomberg’s bodyguards with or without guns, yet they as individuals have a right to keep and bear arms, and so do I.
With that said, I do hope the liberal claim that gun ownership is declining is false or based on bad statistics as Billy pointed out, and that is way I urge gun dealers to be friendly with unfamiliar faces and new customers, be patients with the newbies, because gun ownership needs to rise, it needs to be extremely common, this is why I support the open carry movement and other initiatives that create gun owner visibility.
