As you might or might not be aware Missouri state senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D-Jefferson City) has proposed a law in Missouri that would make it a crime for parents not to tell school officials if they have guns in their home. Specifically Missouri State Senate Bill 549, if passed, would fine parents $100 if they didn’t tell their children’s school about the guns they own, and would even go so far as to prosecuted parents for gun crimes committed by their children. Those who keep up with Missouri politics might remember that Maria Chappelle-Nadal introduced this same legislation almost a year ago but it never got anywhere. – Read Entire Article: http://armedcitizenproject.org/articles/acp-original-article-are-gun-control-advocates-using-the-overton-window#sthash.Mnef81iS.dpuf
If you think The Overton Window is just political fiction, the stuff of fantasy, consider what was done to “Big” Tobacco.
1. Surgeon General declares it unhealthy in the 1960s
2. Non-smoking sections are created in airlines, shopping malls, and other public places
3. Smoking is banned from airlines
4. More workplaces become smoke-free environments
5. “Big” Tobacco compromises, agrees to advertise against their own product
6. Companies begin rejecting smokers as job candidates
6. Companies begin rejecting smokers as job candidates
7. Employees are forced to undertake tobacco tests
8. Smoking is banned from OUTDOOR public places such as beaches, stadiums, parks, even entire college campuses goes free
9. As electronic cigarettes explode, the war against them begins
9. As electronic cigarettes explode, the war against them begins
Now to be fair, there are huge differences between smoking and gun ownership, the former is not a constitutional right, and smokers never had The National Smokers Association fighting for them either. Smokers also made the mistake of compromising, of accepting limits thinking it would be enough. Yet you saw what Joseph Mengele had to say about that, and we cannot afford to be like his victims.
The good news is that we’re active, outspoken, we’re buying guns like crazy, raising hell, and fighting back against our enemies. But we must not rest on our laurels, remember, America is in great peril, the reelection of Obama, the 99% movement, occupy wall street, attacks against Capitalism, there is a transformation taking place and we have to keep fighting, because the minute we compromise, that’s when they win. That’s how we got the Gun Control of 1968, the Brady Bill, the ATF, the criminalization of drugs, prohibition, internment of Japanese-Americans, etc. All those were the result of compromise, which is why a man of principle wins or loses, but never settles.
Be that man of principle, be willing to say Right is Right and Wrong is Wrong, even if you can’t argue, even if you can’t convince your adversary, remain steadfast and self-assured, simply say “I know I’m right and 100 million gun owners agree with me, and we’re gonna do everything in our power to stop you.”
