If the accessibility of guns contributes to crime, why aren’t criminals shooting each other with this?
It’s a blister pack with a gun in it. Yes, it’s a black powder firearm which isn’t regulated as a “firearm” but the government, but that’s just semantics. That’s a gun, and everything you need to fire it except for powder and percussion caps, which by the way were conveniently located right next to the blister pack.
It does suck that the kit is now going for $300+ though.

Sure, some could argue that figuring out how to shoot this is harder than buying a modern firearm and loading it with rounds, yet anything can be learned. With that said, if you’re thinking of buying one for self-defense, know this:
1. Keep your powder dry and watch out for moisture, including that from your body if you’re carrying concealed.
2. The percussion caps have a tendency to fall off.
3. Forget about a quick reload. Those six shots (in the revolver) better hit, or you’re dead.
Personally, I’m sticking to modern guns, but if you’re living in an anti-gun state and black powder is the only thing you can buy legally, go for it.
