Alabama Bill would legalize guns in cars without concealed carry permit

I live in Tennessee and before I got my concealed carry permit, I was expected to keep my gun in the trunk of my car, and only when I’m going from my house to the range and back.

Alabama has a similar law but as this article points out, they’re tyring to change it so our 2nd Amendment right isn’t dependent on having the money and the time to get a permit.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — State Sen. Scott Beason, R-Gardendale, wants to make it legal to carry a loaded handgun in your car without a concealed carry permit and has introduced a bill to relax the law.

Beason’s proposed change to the law comes a year after the Alabama Legislature made major changes to the law for carrying weapons.

(You can read about those 2013 changes here.)

Under the current law, it is legal to carry a weapon in a vehicle without a permit if the weapon is unloaded and out of reach of anyone in the car.

“If you pull someone over for a real good reason, then you don’t need to take them to jail for a gun crime.”

“It’s the same thing I started out with last year,” Beason said in an interview Monday. “I don’t think you should have to pay for your second amendment rights.”

Beason said that it bothered him that law enforcement can charge a driver with a gun crime, even when there might not have been a cause for a search when a driver is pulled over.

“If you pull someone over for a real good reason, then you don’t need to take them to jail for a gun crime,” he said. “You’ve already got a good reason.”

While I hate using class warfare tactics, I think they might work in this case. Alabama has a lot of poor people, black and white, so we have to sell it to them to overcome billionaire Bloomberg and the MDA carpetbaggers.

Here’s a few questions for anti-gunners.

A. Why is it OK for Bloomberg to have 17-armed-bodyguards but not OK for a poor man to have a one loaded weapon in his car?

B. If you believe in “fair share,” is it fair that some people can’t afford to get a concealed carry permit?

C. If you claim not to be racist, why do you support laws that keep poor black people unarmed and defenseless?

D. If Democrats are the party of the poor, will they join Beason in his quest to help the needy exercise their 2nd Amendment rights?

E. If you don’t think one needs an ID to vote, why should one need a permit to carry a gun?

If you can think of other questions, let us know.

  1. A permit is unfair,What difference does it make if you have a paper who anyone who has friends in law enforcement can get…It is just another way to take money from the Alabama Residents…

  2. You’re right, the end goal is constitutional carry, but we’re not there yet. Look at it this way, we’re passing all kinds of pro-gun laws in the red states, we’re making gun ownership more visible and mainstream. But can we sell constitutional carry everywhere? No, not yet, so let’s take what we can get and go from there.
