Slate Writer confuses Law-Abiding People with Felons.

If two children die from two gun accidents, one from a family where the father is a felon that owns a gun illegally, and another one from a law-abiding family, should both fathers be charged as criminal? Justin Peters thinks so.

On Saturday, a 2-year-old North Carolina girl was playing in her house when she found her father’s loaded handgun hidden under the couch. She grabbed the gun, shot herself, and died later that day. On Sunday, the girl’s father, a 19-year-old felon named Melvin Clark, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter.

I’m glad Clark was charged, and I hope he’s convicted. The speed with which charges were brought against Clark is somewhat surprising, given that, as the Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer has reported, there have been several unintentional shootings in the Fayetteville area recently that have not resulted in charges. In March, a Robeson County man was cleaning his shotgun when it unexpectedly discharged, killing his 10-year-old son; it does not appear that charges were ever brought against him. (I’ve contacted the district attorney’s office, and will update this post when I get a definite answer.) That same month, a Columbus County man was playing with his gun when it suddenly discharged, injuring his friend; no charges were filed. In 2011, a Tabor City, N.C., man fired a rifle he thought was unloaded. It wasn’t, and the bullet went through the walls of his house and into a neighbor’s yard, striking three people, one of whom later died. The man was never charged.

….

So-called accidental discharges can generally be ascribed to carelessness on the part of the gun owner. The state can encourage compliance with gun safety protocols by charging those people whose failure to follow them results in injury or death. That’s one reason why I support prosecuting gun-owning parents whose children die or are injured in unintentional shootings: to send a message to other gun-owning parents, and hopefully encourage them to take gun safety more seriously. But that message gets muddled if the laws are inconsistently enforced.

Mr. Peters, bad things happen, that’s life. I too wish everyone would practice gun-safety, car-safety, knife-safety, and be safe in general, but that’s not realistic. While you were bitching about gun accidents, you failed to mention the many daily acts of armed self-defense law-abiding citizens and legal residents engage in.

Jails are for real criminals. I don’t mind a felon going back to jail for owning an illegal gun, but a father who has to see his son die because of a stupid gun accident has already been punished more than enough. Unlike journalists, most Americans aren’t out for blood every time something bad happens.

I also don’t see what laws you want enforced, is it a crime to have an accident? Do we have enough prisons to incarcerate people who made one mistake? Who’s going to pay that bill?  In California prison overcrowding is so bad that sometimes Judges order the early release of criminals, REAL CRIMINALS, not a careless father that had one gun accident, but real bad guys.

Drug users don’t always go to jail either, in spite of the protestations from my libertarian friends, when a pothead or meth-head is jailed, is usually because they have priors. No priors? You might get rehab with probation. Hardly anyone with small quantities of illegal drugs does hard time.

Paris Hilton was caught with cocaine, she went to jail for 30 days not for the drug crime, but because she failed to show up to court. If she had gone to court, she would have gotten probation or rehab.

Suffice to say, gun accidents aren’t more tragic than pool drownings, bike accidents, hiking accidents, and any number of ways a child can die. I once met a man in a wheelchair who used to play high school football but suffered a spinal chord injury. That’s life, and unless you want to keep your children in a padded room for the rest of their lives, you will accept the risks.

So stop being a bleeding heart, Mr. Peters. If you care so much about gun safety, share the NRA’s Eddie Eagle video, that’s far more productive than confusing law-abiding people who had a bad day with felons who do bad things.

Enemies List: More than 100 Seatle businesses sign-up as Gun-Free Zones.

Washington State passed a law preempting cities from declaring themselves gun-free zones, so the Seattle socialists found a loophole,

“Over 100 Seattle businesses have now posted signs and proclaimed themselves “Gun Free Zones,” a program that has taken root whether or not its architect, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, wins reelection in two weeks.

“This program has become a national model for how to change the conversation on gun violence,” Ralph Fascitelli, head of Washington Cease Fire, told a news conference at the Big Picture Theater, called to announce that signups have passed the century mark.”

Do post their names, Mr. Mayor, criminals need a shopping list. By the way, would you be OK if I post a sign with the words “Muslim-Free Zone” outside my store? Would you respect my “property rights” or accuse me of being a bigot? Because that’s what these businesses are, bigots against the Second Amendment and patriotic gun owners.

While McGinn has emphasized local initiatives, his challenger State Sen. Ed Murray has stressed legislative and political actions.

Murray is strongly supporting statewide Initiative 594, which would require criminal background checks for those purchasing weapons on-line and at gun shows.  Last week, he stressed the need to “unite with legislators” and “the core (mission) of getting at and changing legislators’ minds.”

Hmm, so the choice is between Hitler and Stalin. What to do? Siberia or Auschwitz? Seattle really sucks, are there any Republicans left in that town?

Oddfellows, a popular restaurant on Capitol Hill, was the first to put gun free zone signs in its windows.

Attention Criminals! For an easy score, Oddfellows is the place to go. Unarmed servers, unarmed patrons, gun-free goodness because we care about the safety of our criminals.  If you’re hungry for cash, Oddfellows is the place to rob. Located at 1525 10th Avenue in socialist Seattle. For hours of robbery,  visit oddfellowscafe.com.

Sleep with your gun with the Patriot Pillow.

This innocent-looking pillow can pack a lot of firepower. According to Field & Stream,

At a recent Missouri gun show a Kansas company made a marketing push for the Patriot Pillow, which is a cushion with a hidden compartment large enough to hold a handgun.

Initially called the Privacy Pillow, the concealed pouch was created to hold bedside items like TV remotes or glasses and be comfortable enough to sleep on. But representative Nathan Powers told ABC affiliate KQTV the concept can also provide a secret repository for self-defense weapons, and while someone could sleep on the pillow, they don’t have to.

“If you’re sleeping, you may choose to sleep on top of it. If it’s soft enough, you could do that. For people who don’t want to sleep on the pillow with the gun underneath their head, knife, pepper spray or whatever you have, taser, you could sleep with it in the bed next to you,” said powers.

One thing is certain, the more handguns you buy, the more places you need to hide them. Keeping all your guns in the safe is simply not an options. In a dire situation, there might not be enough time to open the safe.

Another Victim of Biden’s Advice.

Remember when Biden told us to get a shotgun and fire a warning shot? Several people have gotten hurt from his advice, here’s the latest one:

A Woodbridge woman was arrested after she shot a handgun into the air to scare off a group of boys who were attacking her daughter.

Lakisha Gaither, 35, said she fired a single round into the sky from her legally owned gun Saturday night after a boy punched her daughter in the face during a dispute near their home.

The shooting occurred at 9:20 p.m. in the 13600 block of Cridercrest Place. After confronting a teenage girl and her mother in the neighborhood over a prior disagreement, Ms. Gaither and her 15-year-old daughter, Brianna Stewart, began walking home. A group of about 10 boys approached them in the parking lot of their apartment complex. One boy began to swear and insult Ms. Gaither and her daughter, who stood up to the boy.

“The two were face to face,” Ms. Gaither said. “He grabs her shirt, she goes to push him off her.”

Ms. Gaither said she realized she’d be putting the both of them at risk if she jumped into the fray.

“I stopped and turned to walk to the middle of the parking lot. I made sure no one was around me,” she said. “I unholstered my gun, pointed it straight in the air and fired just one shot to get him off my child.”

10 against two, the kind of human garbage that assault women, yet mom made a mistake. Brandishing the gun was fine, but having compassion for garbage is what gets you arrested.

“You can’t fire into the air,” Officer Perok said. “Once something goes up, it comes down. There’s the possibility of causing property damage, injuring someone or killing someone. In an apartment complex, the odds of that bullet coming down and striking something are very high.”

Yes officer, but no one got hurt.

Daniel L. Hawes, a Virginia Legal Defense attorney who defends clients for their use of firearms in self-defense, said that while Ms. Gaither should not have fired into the air, she was not wrong in wanting to defend Brianna or herself.

“A person has the right to defend themselves. A person doesn’t have to wait until they’re actually harmed,” he said. “Shooting into the air sort of changed things dramatically. She is creating a threat herself, to other people in area. She may not be guilty of a crime, but police were not wrong to charge her.”

By the way, I’m willing to bet everyone in this story is African-American. If the mother had been white and their attackers black, she’d be called a racist. If they had been black and their attackers white, she’d be called a hero. But because everyone is black, Obama doesn’t give a crap. You won’t hear him say that Brianna looks like Malia. Yeah, that’s our president and his media, a bunch of race-baiters that instead of caring about everyone’s rights, they pick and choose.

Gun Haters Wear Guns.

Protesting guns with guns like like protesting Nazis with an SS uniform.

Guns are as popular in the culture as they are in the range, yet liberals can’t stand it, that’s why the “artist” of “wear it, don’t bear it” got featured by The Huffington Post.

“I’d never designed jewelry before. I’m a history major. I’d never done anything creative like that.” she says, “But after Newtown, there was a strong revulsion I felt towards guns glamorized in fashion… In the fashion and art world, guns are pervasive as symbols of power, status and a kind of edginess. But to what end is pretty ambiguous. The idea of Wear It, Don’t Bear It was to steer [the use of gun imagery] in a more positive direction.”

Sorry Milstein, but your art sucks. I prefer this beautiful AK-47 dress below:

Or what about Rihana’s gun earrings made of gold?

Not bad. Yet you say:

“Psychologically, we’re so drawn to these symbols of aggression,” Milstein says. “Girls in pictures pose like Charlie’s Angels. Andy Warhol made his gun poster, and that’s still part of culture now. In order to define what’s acceptable, we have to set boundaries. Set up parameters and say ‘Okay, there’s really a trend here, but let’s focus it and make a statement.’ My statement is not anti-rights. To the same extent one has the right to wear whatever want, one has the right to buy a gun — but both need to be done with an understanding of what it means; with a recognition of that responsibility.”

No, what we’re drawn to are symbols of POWER and self-reliance. We love Charlie’s Angels not just because they’re pretty, but because they kick ass. Yesterday I was watching Gravity and got pissed that the female astronaut was a whinny bitch. She tells the male astronaut that she’s going to save him, and what does she do after entering the space ship? She takes of her astronaut suit and floats around, not moving, like there’s nothing better to do. Then she’s in the Russian capsule, faces a mechanical problem, and what does she do? She gives up until experiencing an hallucination were the male astronaut is cool as a cucumber, finds the vodka, and tells her how to start the ship.

Maybe if Milstein would show up to the gun range and shoot a few rounds, she’d realize guns aren’t bad at all.
