I love letters to the editor like these:

To the editor — I am a staunch supporter of the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights, especially the Second Amendment. I have a concealed pistol license and have had one for almost 20 years.

Why do I carry a gun? There are many reasons. I’m a WWII vet, too old to fight, too slow to run and I want to keep from getting killed. I’ve been around long enough to know the world is a scary place with lots of evil in it. I don’t wake up in the morning thinking, “Boy, I get to kill someone today.” But I will not become a statistic in a police report.

I am prepared to protect myself, my family and my home against any aggression and I carry because I love life and I love the people who make it meaningful to me. God gave me the inalienable right and responsibility to protect those that I love. I have studied the rules and regulations for the concealed carry and for self-defense and am well prepared to protect myself and my family.

I won’t belittle anyone for choosing to not buy a gun, but I believe in being prepared.
