U.S. Marshal forgets gun in dressing room

When you’re an authority figure, you can get away with stuff us regular gun owners can’t.

MIRAMAR BEACH - Authorities say an off-duty marshal left his loaded gun in a Kenneth Cole dressing room at an outlet mall in Florida’s Panhandle.

The Northwest Daily News (http://bit.ly/1f97U2l ) reports a customer found the gun Sunday afternoon at the Silver Sands Outlet Mall and alerted a store clerk. The clerk called the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

By the time deputies arrived, the marshal realized he had left the gun and was walking back to retrieve it.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Catherine Rodriguez says the marshal was vacationing in the area and felt “pretty awful” about leaving the gun behind. He is based in Atlanta.

Rodriguez says deputies checked to make sure the officer had all the correct permits and licenses, then sent him on his way.

No charges were filed.
