South Dakota Approves Anti-Gun Bill

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota Senate Committee has approved a bill intended to prevent people found to be dangerously mentally ill from obtaining guns.

The measure would allow people who are involuntarily committed as mentally ill and deemed a threat to others to be added to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Licensed firearms dealers conduct a check through that system to determine whether a customer is eligible to buy a gun.

Supporters say the bill protects people’s rights by allowing them to ask judges to restore their right to have firearms.

Some opponents argue the measure is flawed because it would take away gun rights from people who have not been convicted of crimes.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 5-2 to endorse the measure, which has already passed the House.

Let us hope some anti-gun psychologist doesn’t label you mentally ill.

While we’re at it, if the mentally ill are so dangerous why not take away their knives, bats, cars? Here’s an idea, if you’re not crazy enough to be in a mental institution, you shouldn’t be deprived of your rights.
