China has horrible anti-gun laws, but when it comes to games, I guess you can get away with murder.

China’s first political microblog, People’s Weibo (t.people.com.cn) posted on Sina Weibo Thursday that they have launched a new online game called “Shoot the Devil”. The “devil” is a term used to describe Japanese forces during the Japanese invasion of China in World War II.

The game itself is quite simple: select a so-called devil from 14 major Japanese WWII criminals like Hideki Tojo and Kenji Doihara, then aim and shoot. 20 shots are available for every round of the game.

All targets, according to the Southern Metropolitan Daily, are criminals honored by the Yasukuni Shrine that has caused outrage in a number of Asian countries, especially China and South Korea.

However, though many players like the idea of the game, some also question whether this is the correct way to reflect upon the region’s history. The launch of the game follows the appearance of another online game, also launched by the same website, called “Shoot the Corrupt.”
