Sorry criminals, your criminal-safe zone has come to an end.

The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court today unanimously struck down the city of Erie ordinance that had banned firearms in city parks.

The appeals court, in a 7-0 decision, reversed a June 21 ruling from Erie County President Judge Ernest J. DiSantis Jr., who rejected the request of a gun-rights activist, Justin Dillon, to grant a preliminary injunction to stop the city from enforcing the ordinance at a June 22 gun-rights rally at Perry Square.

Dillon and seven others were cited for a summary offense of carrying a firearm at the rally, in which offenders faced a fine of $100 to $300, and up to 90 days in jail if they don’t pay it.

The Commonwealth Court ruling appears to invalidate those prosecutions, because the appeals court found the ordinance is “unlawful and unenforceable.”

Congratulations Justin Dillon, it takes guts to fight the law and win. Death by a thousand cuts is what bad laws deserve.  We refuse to be segregated! It’s our parks, our city buses, our public universities, our government buildings, and we’re gonna take them all back.
