Pig Supply burglarized 5 times.

This picture is from their website.

Former Texas cop Rusty Mayfield deserves credit for having a sense of humor, how did he named his gun store “Pig Supply Inc.” is beyond him, but the place is a hit with law-enforcement, and criminals looking for easy pickins’.

HIGHLANDS, TX (KTRK) — A series of gun thefts in Highlands have citizens concerned. At least 17 weapons were stolen in multiple break-ins… A new razor-wire fence is going up. It’s the latest security measure that the gun store has been forced to take. In 40 years in business, there have been five break-ins, and three of them in the past year and a half.

The concern is that the stolen weapons could be used in crimes. Customer Clyde Hanna says one already has; the burglar caught at their home four years ago.

“They also announced to that gentlemen, he was in trouble ’cause he was associated with robbing this store,” Hanna said.

That gun was taken off the street, but a lot more from the store cases are still missing.

“Worried every night about one of my a fellow officer getting shot, or a businessman or someone in the community,” Mayfield said.”

So what can gun store owners do?

4 Tips to Protect Your Gun Store

1. Consider getting a German Sheppard.

2. Get Security Shutters for $1,500 or less (or more)

3.  Get CCTV- Here’s Why:

Prevent theft – Theft is a huge problem in any retail environment, but when guns are involved, the problem is even worse. Not only is the shop losing assets, but stolen weapons could very easily wind up in dangerous hands. Strategically placed surveillance cameras can help to deter criminals from carrying out their plans.

Deter crime – When weapons and volatile criminals collide, the results can be deadly. Security cameras help to protect employees and customers from unsavory characters breaking into gun shops and stirring up trouble.

Criminal investigation – Surveillance footage from gun stores can prove invaluable in criminal investigations. With security cameras capturing images of each individual entering a particular gun shop, investigators have the ability to identify suspects involved in incidents occurring within the shop, or connected to outside crimes where weapons from the shop were utilized.

Continuous monitoring – IP surveillance cameras allow gun store owners to continuously monitor their shops. 24-hour surveillance footage helps to protect gun stores from burglaries after closing.

4. Hire a watchman: Security jobs aren’t for everyone, but there’s lots of people unemployed or who need to supplement their social security income that might be willing to do the job for $10 an hour. Just make sure they have a gun, while the presence of a guard can intimidate some criminals, nobody should die because they didn’t have a gun.

Now before anyone starts bashing Pig Supply, let’s give credit were credit is due. They have two Yelp ratings, both of them good:

Oh yeah, it’s a cop shop, and it’s named Pig Supply, what could be better?

This is a tiny gun and gun accessory store.  Don’t expect a huge inventory of fire arms.  Do expect some really nice and knowledgeable staff that will be happy to help you out.  They have some nice hand guns and some rifles in stock.  You can also work with them to get yourself something on order.  They have good prices on their items. My husband purchased his Bushmaster .223 AR-15 system there and was very happy with the price and the service.   We have been able to find our hard to find Walther clip there as well.

They have a good selection of holsters and straps, as well as ammo.  Some of the fun things they have are zombie targets.  They’re hilarious.  I especially love the zombie shopaholic with her tiny zombie dog in her purse.  The zombie deer is pretty darned funny too.  They have some great patches to sew on your jackets, like ones for the truckers who have been working in the war zones, and for the Marines, Navy, etc.  Oh, and one of my other faves, an arm patch that looks like a regular PD patch, until you see it has a cup of coffee and a sprinkles donut on it.  Yup, Donut Police.  You gotta love the sense of humour.

Oh, and if you want a knife, check them out.  We got a really nice little skinning knife there today for not a lot of green.  I just tested it out on a chicken and it was wicked sharp.  Yay!

If you’re out on the east side, or are lucky enough to live out here, go by and give them a try.  You’ll be happy as a clam if you do.

Pig Supply is an excellent source for anything and everything you could need in the way of firearms, accessories, law enforcement needs as well as classes for your Texas CHL. The owners, a husband and wife team, are very knowledgeable on just about anything you could need, including being a trained Glock Armorer. We are fortunate to have Pig Supply located in our small town, especially since they cater to Sport Shooters, Hunters and Law Enforcement Officers from all over. I know many who will drive close to 100 miles for their great service and supplies.

Very friendly service and they knew a lot about the inventory they also had many things for L.E.’s. I have bought many firearms from them always a pleasure. I will be doing business with them again.

What they need to do know is get some good security, and a better website. Let’s compare and contrast, this is Pig Supply, this is The Shooter’s Depot.

Now you tell me where you’d like to shop?
