No Gun Virgins Wanted.

I don’t know why The Salt Lake Tribune would post a story which according to them, “…originally appeared in….Nov. 5, 2000,” but I guess they need readers and so do I, so here it goes.

The murder rate in this tiny southwestern Utah town is nonexistent and drive-by shootings happen only in the movies. But it is still a good idea for residents to have a gun over the mantle. If they don’t, they are breaking the law.

An ordinance passed by the Virgin City Council this past summer requires residents to keep a firearm and plenty of ammo in their homes.

No big deal, people with pacifist religious beliefs and those prohibited from owning guns are not required to comply. The AG himself declares that law unenforceable.

The council enacted the ordinance after some residents expressed fear that their Second Amendment right to bear arms was under fire.

The move perplexes Kim DeMille of Utah’s Safe to Learn, Safe to Worship Coalition, which is fighting to keep guns out of schools and churches.

“The state Legislature hasn’t addressed guns on any basis,” said DeMille. “I don’t know why they would think their Second Amendment rights are being taken away.”

Well Kim, it seems YOU have a group dedicated to destroying the Second Amendment, and thus they have to make a statement.

Frankly, of all the things a town can do wrong, this isn’t one of them. Frankly, it sends a message, it let the criminals know that these is a town full of armed people ready to stand up against crime.

The Safe to Learn, Safe to Worship people are the ones inviting a tragedy, not from peaceful law-abiding gun owners but from the Adam Lanza’s of tomorrow.
