Gun control never works, so in spite of Ireland having “some of the least permissive firearm legislation in Europe1,” in spite of gun owners needing a genuine reason to posses the firearm, with certificate renewals every 3 years, this happens:
THE SHOOTING OF a six-year-old boy in Dublin adds another low point to the regularly tragic problem of gun crime in society.
Has it come to the point where the authorities should consider a more varied approach to gun control? A number of years ago there was a call for a knife amnesty in Ireland, but could this go further?
Gun amnesties have been used internationally where people, including those involved in crime, are allowed to hand in their firearms to police without fear of prosecution as part of efforts to reduce the number of weapons in circulation.
Today’s poll, Would you support a gun amnesty?

Sad, isn’t it? Now they’re not just treating law-abiding citizens like crap, but giving criminals a break. Here’s a question to the Irish media, do you think criminals fear prosecution? Don’t you think that if someone is owning guns illegally chances are that’s what he wants? Why not a cocaine amnesty? Hey drug dealers, don’t worry about being prosecuted, just give your blow to the Garda.
