Ice-T’s grandson involved in accidental shooting

The haters are going to try to connect the dots between Ice-T being pro-gun and Ice-T’s grandson having a gun accident. Yet there are not dots to connect. Here’s the accident:

Ice-T’s grandson was involved in an accidental shooting earlier this week and has been arrested for killing his roommate in Georgia.

On Tuesday, Elyjah Marrow, 19, was in his apartment with his friend Daryus Johnson. Marrow was handling a handgun when it accidentally fired.

According to TMZ.com, police took the teen into custody and charged him with involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and reckless conduct.

In addition, Marrow was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Meanwhile, Ice-T’s rap-metal group Body Count new video for the band’s latest single, “Talk S**t, Get Shot” has been stirring up controversy. The video shows several people getting shot after posting nasty messages about the band online, Some believe the video glorifies gun violence, sending the message that if someone talks smack about you, you should just shoot them.

Ice-T defended the video earlier this week, telling AllHipHop.com: “Body Count is intentionally hyper-violent, hyper-sexual Rock-N-Roll,  I call it Grindhouse music. It’s like the movie Machete or something. It’s over the top.”

Here’s what anti-gunners plan to use against him now:

Rapper Ice-T threw a bit of cold water on anti-gun activists during an interview with Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Britain’s Channel 4, defending the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

It’s legal in the United States. It’s part of our Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms is because that’s the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It’s to protect yourself from the police, he said Friday, hours after the Aurora, Colo., massacre.

The line of questioning came on the heels of the slaughter when suspected gunman James Holmes opened fire on a packed theater of moviegoers, killing 12 patrons and injuring 58 others.

Ice-T denied there was a link between the availability of guns in the U.S. and the incidence of murder.

If somebody wants to kill people, you know, they don’t need a gun to do it, he said. You can strap explosives on your body; they do that all the time.

Ice-T has spent an entire career embroiled in hot water over the depiction of violence and anti-police stances in his lyrics. The self-declared Godfather of Gangsta Rap has not backed away from his past statements.

There is, however, one instance in which he would get rid of his gun.

I’ll give up my gun when everybody else does, he said.

Ice-T’s grandson violated the law, but that was his choice. Ice-T didn’t tell him “shoot your roommate or I’ll shoot you.”  Ice-T’s pro-gun documentary didn’t tell him to do anything bad. You can listen to gangsta rap and not be a criminal, I know Glenn Beck wants to shift the focus from guns to what he refers to as the culture of violence, but the problem is neither.

This incidents will happen, but they are rare compared to other incident, so there’s no law we can pass to prevent them, in fact, Elyjah didn’t even care about the law, didn’t even know the rules of gun safety, and I know what liberals will say, “if he hadn’t had a gun.” Sure, yet how many college students die from alcohol poisoning? The legal drinking age is 21 yet plenty manage to get their booze at 18 and before. Are colleges gonna become Booze-Free Zones? That might be the rule at Christian universities where most students go for that, but at Berkeley or Michigan? Good luck.

Elyjah made a terrible mistake and the wheels of justice will turn. That’s it. There’s nothing more that can be done.
