Tasmania is a region of Australia, and in spite of all the liberals praising that dreadful continent, there’s still plenty of guns to be found:
Tasmania’s police force has started enforcing wide-reaching changes to firearm amnesty laws.
Police stations are now the only places where Tasmanians can hand in their unregistered guns.
Since the Port Arthur shootings 17 years ago, gun shops have been accepting unregistered firearms.
The dealers were allowed to sell them after at least seven days under an exemption to the gun laws.
But the Assistant Police Commissioner, Phil Wilkinson, says legal advice indicates it is not allowed under the Firearms Act.
“Everyone believed that they were acting in accordance with the legislation,” he said.
“But once it became clear that wasn’t the case, then the commissioner of course had no choice but to withdraw the exemption.”
Ray Williams has run a gun shop in New Norfolk for 15 years and says the old system made more sense.
“A lot of people don’t really like to go to the police station with them and the Service Tasmania girls up the road don’t really like to see people wander in with firearms,” said Mr Williams.
“I and other firearms dealers are much more comfortable dealing with that scenario.”
Another dealer did not want to speak publicly, but told the ABC it will mean more guns go unregistered.
Roland Browne from Gun Control Australia applauded the change.
“Anything that takes guns out of the black of grey market is a good thing,” he said.
“Tasmania now has the highest rate of firearms thefts in Australia in relation to the number of guns we have in this state and license holders.
“You’ll see thefts from houses on a regular basis.”
About 300 guns were handed in under the amnesty in the past six months.

What a joke, I’m surprised gun shops in Australia still exist, but I’m not surprised the “grey market” continues. “Gun control” isn’t about fixing anything, like the gun buybacks, it’s a feel-good measure for useless people that would rather pass laws than fix problems.
The left says we should follow Australia, I say thank God we don’t, and I hope we never do.
