Floridiots Organize Gun BuyBack in Jacksonville

Even Red States like Florida have Blue State BS. Consider this:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Since JSO’s gun buyback program started almost 18 months ago, more than 2000 guns have been taken off the streets.

  • June of 2013 – 539 guns
  • October of 2013 – 683 guns
  • January of 2014 – 814 guns
  • June of 2014 – Almost 700 guns

For each of those guns, the person turning them in was given $50 in cash.

“The buyback is a great program,” said Harriet McNeal. She lost her son, Brandon Green, to gun violence in late 2013.

McNeal says with Jacksonville has become too violent.

“They’re killing each other like they’re making a western movie or something,” she said.

Chief Ron Lendvay with JSO has been part of the program. He says though it’s tough to make the correlation between gun buybacks and violent crime reduction, they make the streets safer. He says part of the reason is a lot of the guns brought in are old and have been laying around a house, unused.

“They kind of turn into neglected property, which can be taken, and those firearms become part of the criminal commerce,” he said.

Of the thousands of guns turned in, more than 100 have been reported stolen. Chief Lendvay says buybacks are the perfect opportunity to start and turn their life around.

“If they want to get rid of a firearm and leave the criminal life behind, we urge them to come on,” he said.

The buyback is scheduled for Saturday November 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It will be at Christ’s Church on Greenland Road in Mandarin. Anyone can turn in a gun, no questions asked. Chief Lendvay says the process takes about a minute.

I see, so old and neglected guns, some that don’t even work, become part of Scarface’s arsenal. All this drama over 100 guns that have been stolen.

Here’s an idea, let gun dealers do the gun buybacks! Isn’t that what they do for a living? They buy and sell guns. And if any individual doesn’t want to deal with a gun dealer, there’s always Armslist. See? No need for the chief to waste tax dollars on this BS.

While we’re at it, perhaps the Chief should focus on REAL ISSUES like this one:

In Jacksonville, Florida, a Jacksonville’s Sheriff’s Office jail guard was arrested last Wednesday after selling oxycodone tablets to an undercover officer. James Mock III, 28, was on duty and in uniform when he sold 80 30-milligram pills in return for $1,600. Now he’s facing first- and third-degree felony charges, including selling a controlled substance within 100 yards of a convenience store and possession of a controlled substance without prescription. He was a probationary employee and has been fired.
