“Just a year ago on Monday, a lone gunman, Wade Michael Page, 40, a U.S. Army veteran with links to racist groups, opened fire on those at the temple, killing six and injuring four others before he killed himself after being wounded by a responding officer. The shooting was condemned as a hate crime by officials in the United States and in India.”
…
“We cannot tolerate hate crimes, and as a nation we must dedicate ourselves to preventing incidents of gun violence,” said Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, a gun control group. “We were heartbroken when we learned of the shooting at the Sikh temple. The victims were peaceably gathering in a sacred place and were senselessly gunned down. Our thoughts were with the families of the victims, as they are again today.”

Yet here’s what the Brady Bastards won’t tell you, the Sikh Religion is Pro-Arms,
The Sikh religion requires males to carry a dagger — known as a “Kirpan” — for the protection of themselves and others, at all times.
“Our prophet said we should protect ourselves, and protect those who cannot defend themselves. He made sure that every [Sikh man] should carry a weapon,” Rajwinder Singh said.

Yet the same people that would deprive them of guns, also want to take their knives away.
“Sikhs say they are not being allowed to wear a kirpan – or ceremonial knife – in public places even though the law says they can.
Some have been refused entry to amusement parks and even government buildings because of fears the blade poses a security or safety threat.”

Of course, I would tell the Sikhs that while ceremonial knives with a dull blade (usually) are better than nothing, nothing beats guns for self-defense.
“I think that being able to legally obtain and carry a gun is the best thing any Sikh can do, especially after 9/11 where there have been over 800 documented cases of harassment and violence against us,” Sim J. Singh, a practicing Sikh and Florida-based law clerk who carries a concealed handgun for protection.”

The harassment is because some people perceived them to be Muslim. Now I’ll be honest, I’m not crazy about turbans and beards, but if your life, your religion, and none of my business. If you want to support the right to keep and bears arms, I will support you regardless of who you are. Join the NRA, boys! We’ll welcome you with open arms.
