Gun was stolen last night. I feel incredibly guilty. (self.guns)

Sometime between last night and early this morning, someone broke into my truck and stole my Glock 27, two magazines, and over 250 rounds.

I concealed carry, but I don’t keep the gun in my home because my brother recently moved in with me and is prone to bouts of extreme depression. His previous flirtations with suicide made keeping it inside seem more dangerous than leaving it in the truck. He knows I own the gun, I just never wanted him alone with it.

I have already filed a police report, but all that really does is cover my own ass. There weren’t any discernable fingerprints, nothing. There is still a gun out there and unless it turns up on a suspect or a crime scene, I will never see it again. Hell, it has probably changed hands 5 times by now. Maybe it will make it’s way to Mexico by dinner.

I know I didn’t do anything illegal, but I sure as hell feel responsible for anything that might happen. I feel sick about the whole thing. I know the odds of recovery are slim, but fingers crossed.

Anyway, sorry for venting, just felt like I should pass this experience along. Just let this be a cautionary tale to you all. Be careful out there folks, and try not to arm the bad guys.

Mr. Clyken, let’s be realistic here.

1. If they had stolen your truck and used it to load it up with explosives and blow up a building, would you have felt guilty? I don’t think so.

2. Watch Lord of War, if a criminal wants to get a quality gun, he doesn’t need to steal it, he can just buy it from an arms smuggler.

3. Most illegal guns in Mexico didn’t come from America, they came from Central America, the middle east, and other places. Obama’s ATF did the whole “fast and furious” operation to create a false link between our gun rights and their gun crime.

4. You could have gotten a safe with a lock if you were afraid of your brother. Even a $50 lockbox is better than nothing.

5. If your brother really wants to kill himself, he’ll find a way. Maybe he’ll drive off a cliff, take too many sleeping pills, slash his wrists with a knife, find a good supplier of cyanide, drink rat poison, there’s thousands of ways to die, what your brother really needs is a good shrink.

6. Feeling guilty for things we did not do is illogical. When I was younger, I used to say “I’m sorry” all the time, even when it wasn’t my fault, when I did nothing wrong. That kind of guilt is harmful. You were the victim, here, your property was stolen. I keep one gun in the car and one gun in my house because I never want to forget my gun.

7. You have the right to keep ammunition in your car, although I don’t know why you would do it. I buy ammo when I go to the shooting range, when I’m not at the shooting range, I just keep a loaded gun in the car. Where you expecting a Zombie Apocalypse? Then maybe you’d need 250 rounds or more.

Conclusion: Never give the anti-gunners an inch, never compromise with anything, you have RKBA, period. You’re not responsible for anyone’s actions but your own, and your actions were perfectly within the law.

Besides, the law-enforcers, and by that I don’t mean the cops but mayors and legislators, are sometimes as bad as the criminals. What kind of sick people engage in gun buybacks where criminals with stolen guns are given vouchers?  That’s far worse than the theft of the gun.
