Why harass gun owners with paper forms when you can screw them online? That’s the thinking in the Czech Republic.
Amnesty on illegal weapons till end of year announced
Prague, July 1 (ČTK) — The Czech police today launched an electronic central registry of weapons to replace the current paper version. They also declared an amnesty which allows people to surrender illegally possessed weapons until the end of the year.
The Interior Ministry says the new registry will improve the supervision of weapons and ammunition.
The new registration traces weapons from their production until they are destroyed, rendered harmless or exported.
Under the relevant law amendment, businesspeople must send to the central registry data on the arms they produced or imported to the Czech Republic, and they must record all transfers and sales.
Under the amnesty, people can voluntarily deposit weapons and ammunition with any police unit, Police Presidium spokeswoman Petra Strašilová said.
The police will examine the weapons handed in to them, in order to rule out that they were not used to commit a crime.
