Never put your faith in the authorities, here’s why:
MINNEAPOLIS – A department-issued handgun, ammunition and uniform were among the items stolen from the car of an off-duty Minneapolis police officer last month.
Police said that the pickup truck, owned by Bryan Castle, was parked in a drug store parking lot in St. Paul when it was broken into.
Later that day, Minneapolis police spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Hopkins. The vehicle was pulled over and the 17-year-old driver was arrested.
Items belonging to Officer Castle were found in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence turned up more evidence, but items including a .45-caliber handgun and his uniform have not been found.
The teenager admitted stealing the vehicle, but he would not cooperate with police when asked about the stolen police equipment.

Of course, if it had happened to a civilian… Well, you know.
