This is the one bad incident liberals will use to demonize the 2nd Amendment. I’m only sharing for your awareness.
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho State University instructor was wounded in the foot after a concealed handgun in the person’s pocket discharged during a chemistry lab session with students in the room, school officials said.
Arriving Pocatello police officers found the instructor on Tuesday in the Physical Science Complex with a non-life threatening injury.
The person was treated and released at Portneuf Medical Center, police Lt. Paul Manning said. No other injuries were reported.
Police said the person had the proper permits to carry a concealed weapon on campus.
Idaho State University spokeswoman Adrienne King said the school is not releasing the name of the instructor because the matter is a personnel issue. Police also refused to release the name.
King said there could be an administrative review after police complete their investigation.
The chemistry lab has 19 registered students, but it wasn’t clear how many were in the lab at the time the gun discharged, King said.
King said the school has an alert system but didn’t use it because police quickly determined the shooting was an isolated incident.
“It’s unfortunate,” ISU President Arthur Vailas told the Idaho State Journal. “I’m sure the incident was scary and embarrassing.”
Despite opposition from every public university college president, lawmakers passed legislation earlier this year allowing retired law enforcement officers and people with concealed-carry permits to take firearms onto public college and university campuses but not into dormitories or stadiums.
The law went into effect July 1. Classes started at Idaho State University Aug. 25.

The comments the story is getting are nasty, here are my responses:
Another responsible gun owner. Proves the point that many of us have said all along – as well as what the stats say. The more guns in the schools, the more “accidents” will happen, far outweighing the odds that one will actually prevent a person from harming children.
If you child is shot, what is the difference if it is intentional or by accident?
Some people lie about having AIDS and then infect others, by your logic, we should put all AIDS-carriers in a concentration camp or a private island, right?
Not a great start to the guns on campus experiment.
The same experiment that has taken place in Colorado for years with no incidents?
Idaho, once again the laughing stock of the nation.
When was the last time a New Yorker of Californian complained about his State being the laughing stock of the nation? If these people hate Idaho, they’re free to live. They’re also free to get lost in the middle of the winter and freeze to death. Whatever suits you, liberal.
And now, THE MOST IDIOTIC COMMENT:
Some of my colleagues are concerned that you are encouraging firearms within a densely packed concentration of young people who are away from home for the first time, and are coincidentally the age associated with alcohol and drug experimentation, and the commission of felonies.
Once again, this reflects outdated thinking about students. My current students have grown up learning responsible weapon use through virtual training available on the Xbox and PlayStation. Far from being enamored of violence, many studies have shown, they are numb to it. These creative young minds will certainly be stimulated by access to more technology at the university, items like autoloaders, silencers and hollow points. I am sure that it has not escaped your attention that the library would make an excellent shooting range, and the bookstore could do with fewer books and more ammo choices.
The military features a densely packed population and they recruit from the same age as college students, so you’d think the military would be a cesspool of violence, yet it isn’t.
As for alcohol and drugs, who shows up to class drunk and high? The shooter in this incident was neither, or the article would have mention it.
As for video games, #1. they’re called suppressors, people who know guns know that. #2. Video games don’t teach you to shoot people anymore than porn teaches you to have sex. You have to DO THE ACT to learn.
Besides, I don’t remember buying hollow points when I play video games, and while Sniper Elite III does give you the option of choosing more powerful ammo to blow up a tank with less shots (you have to shoot it in the right place, the gas tank), it’s just a simulation of being a sniper, it’s not the real thing.
Lack of a pocket holster that covers the trigger?
There are two Americas. One wants to remain children all their life and let the almighty parental State take care of them. The other America arms itself, and stands on its own two feet.
Isn’t that scary? That one America thinks FDR was a great president and we need to keep expanding the safety net until everything is under government control? The way I see it, the only place for socialism is within the family unit, and by choice. If the National Bank of Dad wants to pay for Jimmy to get a BA in Business, fine by me, but the State should play no role. Sadly, that’s not the majority view, in Chattanooga where I used to live, they’re offering new businesses $10,000. Of course, that doesn’t apply to all businesses, only those the city sees as worthy. So not only is the mayor allowing socialism, but he’s also picking the winners and losers. C’est la vie.
