Bring your gun to work in Jackson County, MS.

Liberals often say the South is backwards, even here in Tennessee I’ve heard plenty of my fellow Southerners make fun of Mississippi and Alabama. Well, this proves that when it comes to defending the Constitution, the South is at the vanguard of individual rights. This law is in fact superior to Tennessee’s guns in parking lots bill. If you go to the trouble and expense of getting a concealed carry permit, you ought to be treated with the respect that license deserves.

“JACKSON, MI – By this time next month, Jackson County employees holding a concealed weapons permit could be allowed to carry a gun during work hours.

….

Members of the public licensed to carry concealed weapons cannot be prohibited from bringing guns onto many county properties, so supporters argue employees with the same license should have the same right.

This is not the first time the county has considered creating a policy for employees. Last year, the board defeated by a 7-4 vote a similar rule that would have allowed employees to carry concealed pistols to work. It was written into the county’s workplace violence policy.

Jackson County Sheriff Steven Rand said he sees both sides of the argument.

“I think employees should have the same right as your average citizen has to protect themselves,” Rand said.

But, he does think the county should regulate certain areas.

“There needs to be a balance between Second Amendment rights with the employer’s right to protect their interests, too,” Rand said.”

Really? What about the employer who doesn’t want to build a wheelchair ramp?  What about those that want to hire illegal aliens to save money? Or allow smoking at work? Sure, in a 100% libertarian society the employer would be able to do whatever he wants. But guess what? We’re not there yet, instead, the government picks the protected categories and punishes everybody else. That’s why Abercrombie & Fitch can get sued for discriminating on the basis of race, but not size or age.  Well, if that’s the game they want to play, fine, the Second Amendment makes every gun owner a protected category, we demand civil rights for ourselves.

As for employers in Mississippi, OK, here’s a newsflash, you’re in the SOUTH! You’re not in the land of fruits and nuts, we don’t take kindly to people who mess with our guns here. You want to do business in Mississippi? We won’t demand you speak with a southern drawl, but you better respect our culture!
