Bonnie & Clide Gun Auction

One time only: Buy Bonnie Parker’s Colt .38

If you’re a gun collector with $100k,  maybe $500k, this auction is for you:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The gun lay in a bedroom drawer nearly 40 years. It took another 40 years to reach the auction block.

Bob Hightower heard the story behind the pistol as a boy but didn’t understand it then. He was a grown man before he held the gun in his hand.

To this day he’s never fired it.

“I just didn’t realize its significance,” Hightower said. “I would hope someone would buy it and appreciate it for what it is.”

The nickel-plated Colt .38 semi-automatic pistol pulled from the folds of Depression-era outlaw Bonnie Parker’s skirt hours after her death goes up for sale later this month. Along with it are the six bullets found in the gun’s clip, an album of 14 original photos from the scene where a posse of lawmen shot Parker and lover Clyde Barrow down, and an affidavit of authenticity from the coroner who signed the couple’s death certificates.

Bidding opens at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 25 at Case Antiques at 2240 Sutherland Ave. in Knoxville.

The collection sells as a single lot with an estimated value of $125,000-$175,000. Similar sets of guns associated with the pair have sold for as much as $500,000.
