Momentum builds for handgun open carry in Texas

Contrary to popular perceptions, Texas is not the most pro-gun State. Open carry of handguns is illegal, and our 2nd Amendment patriots of Open Carry Texas are trying to change that.

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Many gun rights activists say now, maybe more than ever before, they believe they have the momentum to pass an open carry law for handguns in Texas.

More than 70 people with the group Open Carry Texas participated in an open carry walk Sunday afternoon in the Uptown neighborhood in Dallas.

Texas currently allows open carry of rifles and shotguns which is what these demonstrators were carrying as they walked around the West Village development.

Or course, the Dallas County Democratic Chair, Darlene Ewing, disagrees: “Personally, I think Dodge City belongs in the Gun Smoke reruns…We are not anti-gun, we have some people who would like a lot of restrictions and some people who are not opposed to open carry and everywhere in between.”

Right, and Hitler wasn’t anti-Jewish, and the Klan isn’t anti-Black. Of course you’re anti-gun! Are you kidding me? Gun Smoke reruns? Dodge City? Those are anti-gun references you bastards use all the time, and then when we pass our pro-gun laws, your dreams of blood in the streets never materialize.

Here’s some information about Open Carry Texas,

Our Mission:
1) To educate all Texans about their right to openly carry
rifles and shotguns in a safe manner.

2) To condition Texans to feel safe around law-abiding
citizens that choose to carry them.

3) Encourage our elected officials to pass less restrictive
open carry legislation.

(4) Foster a cooperative relationship with local law enforcement
in the furtherance of these goals with an eyetowards
preventing negative encounters.

Cop Admits Gun Buybacks Don’t Work

Unlike the Mayor of Boston, Thomas Nolan has real experience fighting crime, and he knows what doesn’t work:

“Most of the guns that are used in crimes are fairly new, large caliber semi-automatic pistols,” said Thomas Nolan, a former 27-year Boston cop who teaches criminal justice at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. “The majority of what you see in these gun buyback programs are revolvers. We don’t even know if these guns are capable of being fired.

“This is a little bit gimmicky,” he said. “They’ve done them all over the country, but I think in 2014 we should be thinking of entirely new means of addressing these issues rather than recycling old and somewhat tired ideas.”

But Nolan added that a buyback is worth the money if it prevents even one homicide.

Oh well, following that logic why not just ban all guns? Idiot, we don’t sacrifice freedom to save lives, in fact, sacrificing freedom is what kills lives. So if you care about saving lives, you’ll join the NRA and promote gun ownership.

Dr. Robert Sege, a pediatrician at Boston Medical Center who studies gun violence, said, “This tragedy that happened on Friday clearly requires a response, and a gun buyback program is something we can do. The main thing gun buybacks do is send a message that we don’t need to have guns in our home. These are guns that could be stolen or used for crimes.”

These pediatricians are a joke, they don’t study gun violence, they study diaper rashes and kids with gas. Even the guys at the ER, the ones that actually remove bullets from the bodies of criminals, don’t know nothing about guns or how to use them in self-defense. We don’t need to have guns? Tell that to the 60-year-old woman who shot a rapist in his 20s, tell her that her gun could have been stolen or used for crimes.

I wish all anti-gunners could experience crime, they think they don’t need guns? Let them see what happens when you don’t have them.

Objectivism and Force

How does Objectivism (Ayn Rand’s philosophy) feels about the use of force?

Rational Egoism / Ayn Rand’s Objectivism
Life-based, Reason-based Morality (True Egoism)

“To the extent that physical force is used against a person, it stops him from acting on his judgment, his basic means of living; thus, the use of initiatory physical force against people is immoral. Physical force may be used only in retaliation and only against those who initiate or threaten its use.

This is a better alternative to:

Personal Subjectivism
Whim-based Morality (False Egoism)
You should do whatever you want to
do—so, if you want to use force against
others, you should.

Social Subjectivism
Consensus-based Morality
You should comply with the social
consensus—so, if you refuse, the
collective may properly force you to
comply.

Republicans in Utah to Curb Gun Suicides

Sometimes the Grand Old Party disappoints:

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – A Utah lawmaker is proposing a bill that would encourage to gun owners to buy trigger locks and gun safes and give stores incentives to implement suicide-prevention programs.

Republican Rep. Steve Eliason of Sandy says the proposed legislation could help curb the state’s suicide rate and prevent young people from using their parent’s firearms to take their lives. His bill, which has not yet been introduced, would offer a rebate to gun owners who purchase the safety devices. Retailers would have to agree to implement suicide-prevention programs in their stores to be eligible for the program.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1gcvrin ) that Utah has one of the highest suicide rates in the nation, with 10 residents taking their life each week, most often with a gun.

….

The idea has precedent. For example, about half of gun stores in New Hampshire now offer suicide-prevention materials and education.

The state would pay for the rebates with money from fees for concealed-weapons permits. Utah has a $2.4 million surplus in this fund.

The proposal has already garnered support, including from the Utah Shooting Sports Council.

“Representative Eliason came to us with a suicide-prevention bill, and we saw a perfect place where we could use that money and encourage safety in the home by giving back to the permit holders,” chairman Clark Aposhian told the Tribune.

This is absolutely ridiculous. If I want to kill myself and my gun is in the safe, I’ll open the safe and do it. How is this supposed to prevent suicides? We don’t need the State playing nanny with gun owners, and we certainly don’t need gun stores turned into mental health centers with a bunch of stupid pamphlets. Suicide prevention? Screw that, it’s an INDIVIDUAL CHOICE like an abortion, but unlike an abortion, you’re not murdering an innocent person when you murder yourself.

Here’s the reality, 99.99999999% of gun owners did not commit suicide last week in Utah. Furthermore, don’t give us “statistics” like “10 residents taking their life each week, most often with a gun.” Most often with a gun? What the heck is that? 7 out of 10? 6 out of 10?

The Utah Shooting Sports Council should be ashamed for supporting this, don’t they realize that this is a stepping stone towards greater gun control?
