Australian police define homemade weapon as firearm

If you’re Australian or you understand Aussies, explain this story to me.

1. Kids get homemade weapon from neighbor and another kid dies

“Daniel, 15, was hit while standing over the gun’s 1.4 metre long PVC pipe barrel when a friend, Mitchell Seeley, pulled the firing lever in the belief no one was in the way.”

2. “Mr Olle said the air gun was so powerful it was later defined as a firearm by police.” Sort of like saying the tofu was so good, PETA defined it as a steak.

3. “Mr Cowan said he and wife Lisa understood their son’s death was an accident, but were angry the boys could get their hands on the gun, which had been in the Seeley family’s shed.”

So what do they want now? Ban homemade weapons? Control sheds? I’m sorry for your loss, Mr. Cowan, but you’re blaming the tool! If your son had died bungee jumping, would you blame the rope that broke? Would you demand that bungee jumping be restricted to minors?

This is what killed his son:

“That missile was a bicycle handle grip wrapped in electrical tape and fired from a gun powered by compressed air, a combination that caused a devastating head wound.”

So what do they want? A PVC Pipe Ban? It would be easier to ban the color pink than to restrict PVC pipes, we all need plumbing after all.

Here’s the worst part:

“Seeley did not have a firearms licence at the time, the court heard. He pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing an unregistered longarm in February.”

Right, he didn’t have a firearm license because HE DIDN’T HAVE A FREAKING FIREARM!  He had a PIPE with air compression. No fire! No gun powder! Am I missing something or are Australians beyond crazy?

Maybe it’s the later, Western Australia did ban crossbows after all. Perhaps they should ban human ingenuity that manges to create homemade weapons in spite of stupid laws.
