Gun Shy? Not With These.

Gun Shy? Not With These.

From the Wall Street Journal. “Experiencing sluggish sales [in 2005] largely because hunters represent an aging demographic, the $2 billion-a-year gun industry has launched bolder marketing pitches to attract novices into the world of weaponry. Gun makers see potential growth in the self-defense, security and target-shooting markets, and the young, edgy, camouflage-clad Gen Y crowd is squarely in the cross hairs.”

“You don’t have to be a hunter to go shoot,” says Scott Blackwell, division manager for manufacturing, product development and law enforcement at Beretta USA.”

I agree. I’m 38, I have never gone hunting, maybe I’ll do it someday but frankly, it seems too complicated and I don’t like the idea of having to buy a hunting license and worrying about shooting the wrong animals. Shooting paper targets is a lot easier.

In the 1950s, my best friend’s father used to ride the New York City subway with his riffle for marksmanship class. Of course, back then teachers were asked if they were communists before getting the job, today the communists are in and the guns are out, unless a crazy shooter decides to take advantage of the Gun Free Zone.
