ULFBERHT .338 from Alexander Arms

Alexander Arms makes great guns, but calling your gun an “Ulfberht” is a little weird in my book. How do you pronounce it? “oolf bert”? At least their ad is pretty cool.

Here’s an idea for gun companies struggling with gun model names, try naming them after military heroes. Who wouldn’t want to own a Patton? And if you’re worried about copyright, find military heroes that have been dead for 50 years or longer.

  1. An Ulfberht is a historical, and almost mythical, Viking sword.

It’s pretty epic. And it fits in with the their current naming scheme, (Grendel, Beowulf, etc).

I personally thinks its way cooler than Patton or Sherman. Those men are much more than just great names. They deserve Tanks!

  2. Thanks for the education, Jeremy B. I’m more familiar with the Romans than the Vikings, thus I didn’t know.

Maybe Ulfberht could be written with simplified spelling and turn into a brand: Ulfbert for example.

I also stand corrected with Patton and Sherman as well. In fact, there is a tank named after Sherman.

  3. The ironic part is that “Ulfberht” is the modern translation of the inscription “+VLFBERH+T”.

That inscription was on the blade of some viking swords that were made of better steel and techniques than was previously thought available for the time period.
