Online Gun Permits in Wake County, South Carolina

If you live in Wake County, North Carolina, now you can apply for your concealed weapons permit and/or pistol purchase from the comfort of your own computer.

County residents will pay a nominal fee for the use of the online service that’s intended to make the permitting process more convenient and less time-consuming, Stevens said.

The sheriff’s office processed 92,729 pistol purchase permits from 2010 until 2013. The sheriff’s office also processed 28,189 concealed handgun permits during the same period, Stevens reported.

A person who wanted to purchase a pistol or concealed weapon permit was previously required to visit the sheriff’s office in downtown Raleigh and complete an application.

…tarting next week, someone seeking a purchase pistol or concealed carry permit can obtain an application online, complete it, print it and bring to the sheriff’s office, Stevens said.

“This enables them to complete the application at their own convenience and not have to wait to do it when they come to the sheriff’s office,” Stevens stated in a press release Friday afternoon. “They can also pay for the permits online with a credit or debit card so they don’t have to bring a check or cash to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s spokesman also pointed out that applicants will still have to visit the sheriff’s office to be fingerprinted, “but by having already completed the necessary paperwork the process should be expedited,” Stevens stated in the press release.

The qualification process to determine if a person has the legal right the purchase and own a handgun is the same as it has always been, the spokesman added.
