Marine punished for stopping robbery

A marine can fight for his country, die for his country, return home missing limb(s) for his country, but if he shoots at robbers some no good DA has the gall to charge him.

The former Marine who pulled out a gun to stop an armed robbery last Friday is now potentially facing felony charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of Arrowhead Towne Center in Maricopa County, Arizona. Mervin Brewer, 61 years old, was waiting in his car while his wife was in Sears.

Michael and Shaashana Hough happened to be in the store at the same time, where they tried stealing a power drill. Confronted at the door by a loss prevention officer, Shaashana pulled out a gun.

And, as chance would have it, Brewer’s wife was coming out of the store exit at that exact moment. Brewer, who watched the situation unfold from his car and later described fearing for the lives of both his wife and the officer, fired four shots at the Houghs. Shaashana dropped the gun and the couple sped away on a motorcycle. They were caught on Saturday, when they were arrested and booked on accounts of armed robbery. The couple claimed to have stolen the tool so they could sell it for food.

Further investigation revealed that the gun was a toy, whose telling orange indicator had been painted over, so that the toy resembled a real weapon. Shaashana claimed that she keeps it to protect herself on the streets.

Now, according the Associated Press, police have submitted a felony charge of unlawful discharge of a firearm; the decision lies with the district attorney.

This is what’s wrong with our country, they persecute the good guys while protecting the bad guys.
