8 Dumb Things Gun Haters Say

Sometimes a gun hater visits my blog and leaves dumb comments, what a perfect opportunity to answer them:

1)      It’s very safe to put the gun in the nightstand in a hotel where my 9 year old is nearby.
Response: Teach your child gun safety

2)      When I open the hotel door and someone has a gun on my head, I’ll be able to say freeze, retrieve the gun and shoot the intruder.
Response: No, but at some point you will have the opportunity to remove your gun and shoot the bastard

3)      I am more likely to get injured from the gun I own (9 to 1) than I would ever by a stranger but it’s my birthright to own a gun, so I will.
Response: Sorry Mr. Goebbels, but a lie repeated a thousand times does not become a truth.

4)      Living in USA, I’m 20 times more likely to get killed from a stray bullet than any other first world countries but guns have nothing to do with it.
Response: Really? Then what about Venezuela? “In 2009, the homicide rate was approximately 57 per 100,000, one of the world’s highest, having tripled in the previous decade.[1] The capital Caracas has the sixth greatest homicide rate of any large city in the world, with 98.7 homicides per 100,000 residents in 2011.[2]” Oh, and they have strict gun control laws, not that the criminals care.

5)      The 2nd amendment was written more than 200+ years ago owing to the realities then, but it’s more relevant than what’s happening in 21st century.
Response: So was the 1st Amendment, the 3rd Amendment (not quartering soldiers) the 4th Amendment, the 14th Amendment, etc. I guess we should get rid of free speech and bring back slavery, right?

6)      After a mass shooting in Australia, stringent gun control laws got passed and there are very less gun violence since then, but that’s Australia man! It won’t work in USA.
Response: Not so, homicides and burglaries are way up in Australia, the only people that had their gun confiscated were the law-abiding people, criminals still do what they do best.

7)      I live a civilized society, but I believe the primal instinct of “might is right” is good, I’ll rather take law into my own hand that let the law enforcement do their own work.
Response: Fighting a criminal that wants to murder or rob you have nothing to do with “might is right.” A civilized society doesn’t treat people like slaves, free men can and do fight back. Even slaves in ancient Rome were expected to protect their Masters. Weapons controls are anti-civilization, anti-society and anti-individual.

8)      Removing all the background check is good because terrorists are stupid enough not to take advantage of it, a Mumbai style attack will never happen.
Response: Terrorists don’t go through background checks and India has some of the toughest gun control laws in the world, while they’re not as bad as Mexico, it’s pretty difficult to get a gun. Yet neither of that stopped the Mumbai attack.

Finally, the gun hater said something smart:

9)     More and more guns in hands of everybody will bring more security.
Yes! A book called “More Guns, Less Crimes” proves that thesis, so do the government’s statistics which show a huge increase in gun ownership with a huge decrease in crime.
